“Awesome Rooms!!!!”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

This hotel is located right on the ocean with beautiful views to go with it. We had a room on the top floor with a fireplace and a couch that looked out to the ocean. This is very nice considering how cold and windy the Oregon Coast can be. The lobby is so so but the room is crowded and had plenty of room for 4 people. The pool area was packed but came indoors with a hot tub and sauna. It is also only a 5 minute drive over to the bay front area of Newport where there are shops and restaurants. Great hotel room for a great stay at the ocean.

scraps0,

It’s great to hear that you had an enjoyable stay with us. The top floor rooms certainly boast great views and in particular the Limited Edition rooms that you stayed in definitely give a lot of space along with the fantastic view.

Thank you for the review and we hope you plan on returning to Newport soon.

Sincerely,

I'd been at this 'resort' years before and it was nothing to recommend about. This time we were there for business. It looks like the place had been remodeled, or renovated but it was much cleaner this time around. Be warned...the walls are extremely thin and you can hear EVERYthing in the rooms next to you. Also...be warned...they do allow pets.

mrsbootc,

Thank you for your return visit and taking the time to write a review. As you mentioned we do allow pets in designated rooms and areas. I am sorry that this effected your stay negatively. I am also sorry that you had noisy neighbors during this visit.

Again, my apologies that this visit was not up to expectations for you. I do hope that you will give us another opportunity to serve you the next time you come to Newport.

Loved this hotel in Newport. We were passing through the area and stayed for one night on our trip down the Oregon coast this month. The views of the ocean from the top floor were spectacular. The sunset was pretty, too. The views from the room reminded us of being on a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean, only instead of a tiny cabin, it felt like we were in the presidential suite. Be sure to get a "limited edition" room. These rooms have been updated with new carpeting/decor. They are huge, with a couch and lounge chairs, kitchen area, TWO flat screen TVs, extra large, fancy bathroom and big balcony. Each floor also had a shared laundry area. The restaurant next door is oceanfront and very good. Only downside was the weather, which was rainy and cool. The high was something like 62 degrees in July. We were told the temperature rarely goes above 65. Clouds did break for the sunset, however.

Room Tip: "Limited edition" rooms are the newest, most updated rooms.

Having never been anywhere near Oregon, I researched hotels through TA and then called the Hallmark Resort. The young man I spoke with answered all my questions and even provided route suggestions from Seattle. His enthusiasm and thorough service got me excited for our one-night stay in the ocean front room.
We were not disappointed. It's a somewhat large resort, but the front desk staff was friendly and our room was very nice. And, of course, the view was amazing: the ocean, the large beach, and a lighthouse. It is also a short walk down the stairs and hillside to frolick on the beach or in the ocean.
He said one of our children could sleep on the couch in the room, but it turned out to be smaller than a loveseat and not very clean looking. So we had to pay $10 for a rollaway bed, which was actually a full-size comfortable single bed that two nice staff members delivered to us and fit by the balcony door.
It appeared that the picnic table/volleyball area is where people take their dogs to pee and such, so we avoided that area with our children.
The room had a fireplace and a large kitchenette with dishes provided. It has private, motel-style entrances to each room. We didn't have time to use the indoor pool or any other amenities, and they do not have a free breakfast.
If you are planning to stay in Newport, I would recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: All rooms are ocean front, although the higher floors have better views.

MidwestMom10,

Thank you for giving us the honor of being your hotel of choice for your first trip to Oregon. I am glad to hear that it turned out to be a good experience for you.

To clarify, there is a designated pet area that is near – but separated from – the volley ball, playground, and picnic area. We do patrol all of the areas frequently to be sure they are kept clean.

Again my thanks for the review and we hope we will see you again on your second trip to Oregon.

We chose this hotel because it was ranked #1 on Trip Advisor. The view is fabulous, but that's all that was fabulous. The "resort" needs some TLC...there was no bedskirt on the bed, the night stand had not been cleaned (I could scrap "stuff" off the surface), the bathroom supplies are minimal, the towels are worn. It is expensive (I think) for what the traveller gets, but then an ocean view does have value, so you are paying for the view.

This was our second trip to Newport, Oregon and to the Hallmark Resort. The staff made us feel so welcome and the room was awesome. Second floor facing the ocean. We stayed three nights just to relax from our busy schedule. The weather was cool and damp but with the large room we didn't mind just staying in! We will be back again!

We booked at the Hallmark based on reviews that we found online and are so glad we did! Our family of four (two young teens) loved having the extra space that the loft offered us, as well as the open area feeling provided by the vaulted ceilings. The room felt huge!

The staff at the Hallmark are friendly, enthusiastic and willing to help right away with anything that is needed. When we first arrived we noticed that one of the plastic deck chairs was cracked and were concerned that it might break if we sat on it. I phoned the front desk and asked that they replace it the next day when housekeeping did the room. There was no rush as we didn't need it that night. The response was "I have someone right here who would be happy to bring you a chair right now if you wish" and they did. Extra pillows as well as blankets to use on the beach were also delivered with a smile.

The three queen loft has a microwave and a fridge that was larger than a bar fridge so you can make meals work in your room with just a little creativity. We also brought our hibachi and BBQ'd at the picnic site along the trail from the hotel to the beach.

The hotel has an L-shaped pool that is shallow (4 feet deep, I believe?) as well as a hot tub and sauna room. We found the pool to be "okay" but it seems to be designed for the younger group and we have older kids. If you have young ones who didn't burn off enough energy at the beach, you'll love the pool.

The beds were comfortable, curtains closed for a black-out effect if you wanted to sleep late, and a stunning view of the beach from every room. We often sat on the balcony just taking it all in, whether it was watching the sand writers on the beach, laughing at the dogs running around, or exhaling at the sunset that took center stage every night. There are 71 steps down to the beach - but who's counting - which will give you a work out to burn off the amazing food at Georgie's. Honestly, the first day I had to take a break halfway up those stairs but you get used to it very quickly and soon don't even notice the effort. A really nice touch is the tap at the top of the steps so you can wash the sand off your feet before returning to the room. Make sure you drag yourself out of your wave induced sleep early one morning, at least. You'll want to check out the beach before 9am when the wind is calm and the tide is out so you can walk through little tide pools and see all of the creatures hanging onto the side of the rocks.

Walk south of the hotel (along the beach) to see the Yaquina Bay lighthouse (entry by donation) and north to the little town of Nye Beach. Both have access to "your" beach so don't bother with using the roads. Nye beach has an AMAZING Ice Cream store - Nye Beach Sweets - run by a retired police officer selling warmhearted service and tillicum ice cream. Also check out the wonderful used book stores and souvenir shops.

There is a Safeway and Fred Meyer within a 5 minute drive from the hotel, so easy access for groceries. We brought a toaster with us, and paper plates etc. as the fridge held quite a bit of food. The only improvement they could make to this room (although it is wonderful as is!) is to offer a hot plate and dishes (perhaps a portable kitchen like some hotels have?) so that you could have a break from microwave meals but still eat in your room and enjoy the stunning view. Perhaps move the desk to where the kitchen currently sits thereby leaving a bit more space to accommodate a roll in kitchen with hot plate?

There is no doubt that our family will be back to the Oregon Coast and we won't stay anywhere else. The Hallmark inn scores high points in our books for location, service and amenities. When we walked around the neighborhood and saw the other possibilities we were glad we chose the spot we did. Thanks to the Hallmark staff for making it such a great trip!

Joanne R,

Thank you so much for the extensive review. I am especially pleased to see that our staff was “friendly, enthusiastic and willing to help” as that is exactly the level of service that we hope to see. I am also glad to hear that you were able to get a Three Queen Loft room for your stay. As you might imagine those are very popular in the summer and usually sell-out quickly. Again my thanks for the very informative review and we will look forward to your next visit with us.

Sincerely,
