“Great Place to Stay”

The Ocean House gets nothing but superlatives. Friendly and engaging owners, spectacular views, tasty breakfast, comfortable rooms.

We have stayed in dozens of B&B's, but only a few are worth repeat visits. Ocean House is near the top of our list, and we will be back.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our four night stay at this excellent, well-established Bed & Breakfast! The innskeepers were two of the kindest, most accomodating, and warmest people we've ever met. The beds are comfortable, the breakfasts delicious and gourmet, and the view of the beach is insurmoutable. My wife is unable to ingest dairy products, and the owners both took great care to ensure that she enjoyed meals of equal creativity and delight without a hint of milk, including some absolutely delicious dairy-free fudge brownies! They even allowed us to take the excess coconut milk and yogurts they had purchased for her when we departed! We enjoyed the complimentary wine and cookies and took in many evenings on the veranda watching the evening light turn to orange over the ocean view. Exactly the relaxation we were looking for on our anniversary trip. The house is beautifully decorated and immaculately clean and feels very much like home. We highly recommend a stay at this amazing little gem on the Newport coast!

Couples celebrating their wedding anniversaries must be drawn to the Ocean House B&B! We met five couples in the course of our two night stay and all were celebrating their wedding anniversaries ranging from 10 years to 40 years. We were celebrating our 30th. Dawn and Craig are delightful hosts who very warmly welcomed us and gave us a very nice tour. Our room was on the first floor that overlooked the beautifully maintained gardens and had a lovely sunset view. Our room was very comfortable with top quality linens, a king size bed, a 3/4 bath, a gas fireplace and a separate door leading out to a patio and the garden. The breakfasts were varied, filling and delicious with fresh berries, fresh squeezed orange juice and great coffee each morning. Tasty homemade cookies are a very nice afternoon treat. Parking is in a covered carport right beneath the main building. Craig provided us with terrific restaurant recommendations in Newport. There are many things to see and do in the area and our time was too short. We will be back!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Pacific Breezes which has a separate door leading to its own patio and the gardens...

There are on occasions, places to which one travels and experiences the extraordinary. Once discovered a number of years ago, my wife and I have have returned to Ocean House B&B in Newport, Oregon on what was likely to have been our seventh or perhaps eighth stay. Sitting high atop a seventy foot bluff to offer a grand vision of the coastal seascape, sits this cozy romantic sanctuary hosted by Craig & Dawn, who upon casual experience and observation extend themselves to whatever lengths to insure each guest was enormously relaxed and pleased with their respective stays. The front porch offers views of a small garden of Irises and Rhododendron, with floating blossoms bouncing about the winds lament and a meandering pathway leading to the beach below. Through perfectly spotted fir that invite spears of sunlight to radiate across the garden, is the grand view of the pacific that lies slightly beyond the bank. Peaceful coastal breeze whisper past your senses from all settings around this beautiful setting.

Our favorite room has always been the southern most upper one with a large king bed overlooking the surf - a sound to which we actually slept a full ten hours straight for the first time in our lives. Additionally pleasing were the personally cultivated breakfasts served each morning by our hosts. The offerings were of true Epicurean delight served just late enough to allow one to sleep in and not be rushed.

If one is so inclined to enjoy extraordinary quiet, romantic kisses, lazy afternoons, the slowness of waking to emerging sunlight, cozy late evening readings or gentle conversations comfortably enveloped by softly luscious leather couches in front of the lingering flames of the fireplace and surrendering yourself to the romance of the sea, then those wishing to explore this quiet hamlet above the clouds might find that you were glad you left the mediocrity of that other world behind - even if only temporarily.

We kept wishing not to have to return to the contrivances, clutter and chaos of the social imperative of constant connectedness we left behind. We could have opted simply to stay here forever. This will soon be yesterdays memory, however, it is a most pleasant one regardless and I am certain that we will, on occasion return there even again.

My husband and I have stayed at alot of B & B's. This one was in a nice location, the inn and rooms were bright, clean and well-maintained. If you choose to stay here you will need special footwear in order to cross the swiftly flowing very cold stream in order to access the beach - we wish we had known this ahead of time. Craig asked us to limit our keurig coffee use before 7am because brewed coffee would be put out at that time but limiting anything on a long planned expensive vacation didn't sit well with us especially being from a different time zone. Breakfasts were at best mediocre and unimaginative. We had 2 mornings with eggs and veggie scramble included and found the 3rd breakfast to include a veggie frittata - in my mind that is the same thing. If you don't eat it day one, and don't eat it day 2 why would they serve it again on day 3. pastries tasted store bought and coffee on day 2 had grounds in it. We did not stay for breakfast on day 3. If you're looking for sunset pictures or views, they will be obstructed here. Also, the innkeepers were not as friendly as other reviews say. Beware, they will take your money/run your credit card immediately upon arrival. Most other B &B's that we have stayed at do it upon your departure. We would not stay with these innkeepers again. Although we liked the building and room.

Room Tip: get the room with the sun porch if you can - ocean views protected from the rain and wind.

Unfortunately these reviewers stayed when the weather was not cooperative. We do have a seasonal stream affecting the entire Agate beach coastline because of recent storms and it is necessary to cross to reach the rest of the sand. We are so sorry they did not have a spectacular time and wish they had said something to us. The wife could not have wheat or corn products. She had asked for egg whites in which we made special for her along with yogurt parfait and fruit. All baked items are made in house, nothing store bought. We bought a new Keurig so that guests may have a cup of coffee anytime of the day, not only when made fresh ground and brewed before breakfast. This way coffee is never limited, I am sorry they got that impression. I do take responsibility for the grounds as that sometime with fresh ground it does happen and I try to avoid them, but not well enough in this case. We do try to spend individual time with all guests and are sad they felt we were not friendly. Most people who know us say that is not possible. We do have a check-in requirement that all guests sign registration and feel it is best to get all business over at that time so as not to bother anyone at check-out. We never charge for deposit or before arrival. We thought this was a good thing. But, again we are sorry for the poor experience they had but continue to take comments, criticism, and advice so as to make everyone’s stay the most comfortable and satisfying possible and learn from our shortfalls.

The reviews are correct. The Ocean House in Newport is a great place to stay when visiting the Oregon coast. Craig and Dawn are gracious hosts and make their guests feel at home in their beautiful B&B. The breakfast served each morning was delicious. My wife and I stayed in the Sea Rose room and what a room it is. The glass walls and ceiling of the adjoining sun room provide incredible, unobstructed views of the beach and ocean. A highlight for us was seeing a whale from the sitting area outside the Ocean House. What a great coastal experience!

Room Tip: Choose a room with an ocean view.
