Long lines waiting for wonderfully prepared fish and chips. We also thoroughly enjoyed the oysters and chips. Bright, busy restaurant with nice views of Old Town Newport. Even if you come early there still may be a wait but it is worth it. Good ice cream for dessert.

Passing through Newport Oregon we asked a local where to grab some fresh seafood. Her response was whenever she wanted something fresh from the boat, she went to Local Ocean Seafoods (everything was local & fresh caught – she had our attention).

Not even knowing there was a waterfront district (always helps to ask a local) we found our way to Local Ocean Seafoods and were thrilled we did.

Arrived early for lunch & the place was bustling. We split the cioppino – enough for two with grilled garlic bread – seafood so fresh unlike anything we get down south – simply wonderful.

Also enjoyed the walk along the waterfront – with seals and boats milling about in the harbor. Both agreed it was one of the unexpected delights of our trip to Oregon and would not hesitate to return.

We had to wait for 50 minutes for a table early on a Saturday evening. Given the popularity of this place this is understandable. We were finally seated at the counter where we were able to watch the chef and cooks in action. Our party ordered four different items: the famous fish tacos, their crab chowder, the burger, and their special of the day razor clams.

The fish tacos did not disappoint and the chowder was uniquely different. Unfortunately, the burger was dry and lifeless and the bun was grilled until it was a rock. Most upsetting though was the fact that the fresh razor clams were so over cooked that even the steak knife they provided to cut them could barely cut through them. They were so rubberery that my jaw could only handle chewing two of the three before I had to call it quits. We did watch the chefs prepare multiple meals and it is obvious that the grill cook overcooked everyones's razor clams...they were on the grill close to 10 minutes each time.

Other dishes looked very good as they came out of the kitchen; we seemed to select poorly. For our first time, after hearing raving reviews, we were not overly impressed.

Fantastic. It sits at the far (east) end of the historic district. Be prepared to wait (as they don't take reservations)... but you can always leave your name and go for a 20 minute walk to the sea-lions.
The menu has some of the best seafood on it anywhere and the prices are fairly good. It's almost a "deli" style place and on a warm day they open up large, glass garage doors to the sidewalk.
