Owner description: Welcome aboard Marine Discovery Tours - Oregon's #1 Whale & Sea Life Cruise! Whether you're traveling solo or with a group, we'd love to share our "Floating Adventure" endorsed by the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Teams of professional and friendly captains and naturalists tell stories that range from gray whales and other coastal sea life to the seasons of Oregon's largest fishing fleet! Fun activities await, as "volunteer deckhands" help with catch and release crabbing, plankton pulls with microscope viewing and navigation lessons. We are local experts who are passionate about delivering a fun, safe activity - you can count on our captain's seasoned knowledge to find the calmest routes on our ocean, bay and river ecosystems. We specialize in marine education field trips for over 7,000 students, annually. Tour groups love our "stretch limo" vessel with a heated cabin for all, seating and complimentary coffee and tea! We're happy to offer exclusive charters for Special Events from reunions to Celebrations of Life/Ashes at Sea - take over the Discovery as your own! Our cruise season is March - October - advance reservations are always a good idea!

This is an ideal way to experience the ocean for the very first time. It is primarily an educational outing, You learn about sea life of all sorts. You see for yourself what the ocean looks & feels like when you are out in it. The crew was very helpful when several people experienced motion sickness. We looked for whales but had no luck on our outing. We did see a porpoise and several different seabirds. My husband, who has sailing & scuba diving experience enjoyed the trip as well. He booked this tour as part of our anniversary vacation in Newport. We had a great time. We recommend this tour as a "must do" for Oregon Coast visitors of all ages. There were snacks & drinks available. The only negative I can think of was that the bathroom was not very accessible, and I recommend supervision for children who need to use it.

My group of 42 senior travelers loved our afternoon cruise with Marine Discovery Tours. The weather got a bit rough and they immediately took us back to the bay where we cruised up river learning more about the area and the marine life. We put out crab pots at the start of the tour and pulled them up when we cruised back into the bay. The young lady aboard gave a wonderful presentation about the crabs and everyone had the chance to hold one if they wanted to..great photo op! Thanks

I would recommend this tour for those new to coastal waters, visiting for the first time, etc. The crew is knowledgeable and friendly and provide lots of information about the area, the ocean, the wildlife. For those who have spent a fair amount of time at the coast and beaches, exploring tidepools, visiting other marine education centers ..... this tour offers nothing new except you are on a boat.

When making your reservation, ask if there will be a school group on board. If so, choose a different tour. The trip we were on was pretty much catered to the large group, rules and activities were focused on them and their needs. After the tour, the shop personnel asked if our kids had a good time and if they got to drive the boat. Drive the boat? That was not mentioned or offered on board, probably because of the large group of kids, so that was a little disappointing for my kids to hear after the fact what they could have done.

This was our 3rd trip with Captain Tom. Always a pleasure! Captain Tom has a great sense of humor and it's been an excellent experience every time. It's going to be a shame if/when we lose him to Hawaii! In any case, best of luck Captain Tom!

My kids had a fun time. We didn't see a whale :(. But, they caught some crabs and let the kids hold them. We saw pelicans, porpoises, and sea lions. My seven year old was even allowed to drive the boat for a bit. Wish we saw a whale, but they of course can't guarantee it. Fun times!
