Owner description: Welcome aboard Marine Discovery Tours - Oregon's #1 Whale & Sea Life Cruise! Whether you're traveling solo or with a group, we'd love to share our "Floating Adventure" endorsed by the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Teams of professional and friendly captains and naturalists tell stories that range from gray whales and other coastal sea life to the seasons of Oregon's largest fishing fleet! Fun activities await, as "volunteer deckhands" help with catch and release crabbing, plankton pulls with microscope viewing and navigation lessons. We are local experts who are passionate about delivering a fun, safe activity - you can count on our captain's seasoned knowledge to find the calmest routes on our ocean, bay and river ecosystems. We specialize in marine education field trips for over 7,000 students, annually. Tour groups love our "stretch limo" vessel with a heated cabin for all, seating and complimentary coffee and tea! We're happy to offer exclusive charters for Special Events from reunions to Celebrations of Life/Ashes at Sea - take over the Discovery as your own! Our cruise season is March - October - advance reservations are always a good idea!

The captain and naturalist were friendly and knew their stuff. The tour itself was nice. Despite the fog, we saw 1 gray whale. The thing that really impressed me was how they handled passengers who got sea sick, including my husband. They gave advice about how to handle and even offered some lavender to soothe the symptoms.

This two-hour harbor and ocean (weather permitting) cruise is well worth the time and money. Everyone on board was extremely pleased as the morning fog lifted just as we passed under the Highway 101 bridge. We viewed three gray whales within 2 miles of the bridge. In addition, the Captain and the naturalist (Melody) pointed out many other types of sea life (birds, sea lions, porposes, etc.). They even dropped two crab traps and let the youngster's handle the many dungeoness and red crabs they hauled aboard.

We originally had scheduled a trip with another company but they gave us the wrong time. We were 20 minutes off and they didn't have a boat. This other company told us to go next door and go on their cruise. I am so glad we did. When Marine Discovery heard what happened to us they bent over backwards to accommodate us and even honored the other folks pricing which they didn't have to do. The excursion was perfect. The captain and first mate were friendly and knowledgeable. We had seven people with kids ranging from 18 to 4. ALL of them loved the boat ride and we saw a bunch of whales. Thank you Marine Discovery for taking care of the family from Tennessee. We appreciate all you did for us. Highly recommend to anyone in Newport or going to Newport.

We loved it! Our "naturalist" was amazing!! On the way out my son was able to use fish and bait a crab trap, my daughter threw the trap out to sea. After that fun experience we were able to see two whales feeding out in the ocean, the we saw some seals and sea lions. Pelicans as well! On the way back we pick up our crab cages and learned all about the crabs we caught! it was a great two hours!!

My husband and I went on this tour the end of June 2012 while visiting his Aunt in Newport. We were not disappointed. The Crew was friendly, knowledgable and entertaining. They went out of their way to make everyone feel comfortable incuding those who suffered from some sea sickness. They also had severral activities with crabbing which they engaged passengers including children and my husband!

The boat was comfortable and had plenty of room to move around inside as well as outside on Deck. The deck was amazing to see the ocean as well as take pictures of the Scenery and Sea Life. We were lucky to have seen some whales and it was fun trying to get up close to them.
Would of liked to have been able to get closer to them but the Captain did a great job of following them and stopping so we could all try and get pictures and video.

They offer free coffee and soft drinks on board and you can also purchase Alcohol. The boat also has a bathroom on board and the Tour takes around 2 Hours. My husband and I enjoyed the tour and meet some nice people. We plan on taking the tour again next time we come for a visit to Newport!
