No trip to Newport would be complete without a visit to Mo's. A bowl of clam chowder and an order of fish & chips are almost mandatory. This place is unpretentious and friendly, the staff are accommodating and welcoming, and the food here is just what you'd expect out of local seafood joint.

We visited Mo's for lunch after a morning of deep sea fishing. It was pretty crowded, but we didn't wait long at all. Don't get the regular Fish & Chips, upgrade to the Mo's Beer-Battered Fish & Chips. It's a few bucks more and worth it. We enjoyed the chowder, onion rings and steamer clams. They also have a Rogue beer that's named after Mo.
Check out the mural on the garage door while you are there. A woman accidentally drove through the front of the cafe, so they put in a garage door and now offer patio seating.
You can buy the "Bath Tub Mo" postcards & specialty Mo beer glasses at this location.

Went down to the bay front in Newport Or looking for a good place to eat. Went into Mo's order some clam chowder some of their home made bread and a salad, it was a cold damp evening and the chowder hit the spot had great taste and just hit the spot. The fresh bread was great and the evening turned out great. I would go back again.

It's very casual and quaint. I'm not a seafood fan but our family loves the bread and bucket of chowder. The view by the window was nice also

Unfortunately, we were disappointed by Mo's clam chowder. We've heard so much about it but I wonder if it's more landmark than over-the-top impressive food? Granted, we only tried the clam chowder to go and ate it on the adjacent shore, but it was more like potato soup with a stray clam here and there. We were spoiled by Scoma's in San Francisco a few years ago so maybe that's the trouble, and neither of us have had clam chowder since, so maybe it's us more than the restaurant's fault. But, we've seen these "famous, chain" seafood restaurants cater more to the local lore and history of the original owner or the original location more so than to the quality of the food. I'm sure they have great things at Mo's, we'll just have to try it again to find out.
