“You will really like the food, and the company was good, too.”

The dinner at the Sylvia Beach Hotel (served downstairs at the cleverly named Tables of Content, to complement the literary theme of the hotel) is a screaming deal. For $25.00 per person, you get a hearty, multi-course meal with a starter, salad, plenty of veg, your choice of entrée, and dessert. Alcohol (reasonably priced) and tip are extra. You are seated at a table with other diners, most of whom are likely to be hotel guests. And the guests come from all over. Our table included couples from Florida and Utah, as well as a Portland couple who had traveled extensively. If you're up for making friends over a delicious meal, you'll like this place.

“Excellent Food and Experience!!!”
Reviewed June 4, 2014

We had a wonderful family style dinner here. What a great concept to seat people at a family style table for dinner. We were seated with a couple and brother from Corvallis and San Francisco and another couple from the Portland area who were retired and volunteering to host different lighthouses on the Oregon coast. It made for a very interesting evening. The food was great. Fresh oysters was our choice - wonderful freshly picked that day - you have to make a reservation for dinner no later than 2 hours before the set dinner time of 7pm. One seating only every night. Wonderful interesting dinner experience!!!

“Mediocre at best...”
Reviewed April 15, 2014

Normally I don't post reviews since I'm a waitress but aside from our bottle of wine, good company and a great view it was not impressive in the least. The staff, I'm sure they are nice people just in the wrong line of work, were forgetful and awkward. The food was hit and miss but when considering the bill at the end mostly a miss. Maybe it was an off night, however, due to the price and the automatic 20% gratuity for poor service, we won't ever try it again. All in all, I just wouldn't reccomend it over other restaurants in Newport who serve great food at a very reasonable price.

“Nice change from chain restaurants”
Reviewed April 4, 2014

Dinner with a hotel stay is optional or anyone can simply reserve. The tables are set for 8 so you never know who you’ll be dining with. We booked for our first night. The menu changes daily so you need to select one of three entrees when making reservations. Meals are served family style. Each table is encouraged to play a game called 2 truths and a lie during dinner. All at our able elected not to play but to simply engage in conversation, which lasted well beyond dinner…. it was indeed fun. The food was good all around, from start to finish.

“Better than home, interesting and tasty”
Reviewed February 6, 2014

Called in the morning of our reservation, to pick our entrees: duck breast with dried fruit, and albacore tuna. Arrived early enough to have a glass of wine while waiting to be seated. Shelly the cat pretended we didn't exist, to our dismay. The bell was rung for dinner and we were escorted downstairs (steep!) for dinner. Met our tablemates. Another glass of wine. Dinner served family-style, in courses. Soup was a spicy vegetable concoction. Played "Two Truths and a Lie". Interesting tablemates. Beautiful view of the fading sunset. Entrees served with perfectly cooked broccolini and smashed potatoes. The duck was tender, fully cooked but moist, and beautifully complemented by the dried fruit cooked with it. The tuna was a bit of a disappointment, rather mushy and fishy, a bit overcooked. Dessert was fabulous, a lemon curd pie with shortbread crust, accompanied by whipped cream and thin-sliced orange cooked in syrup. A bit expensive, but the experience was worth it. A celebration.
