Traveling up the Oregon coast, we stayed here [as the Rogue B&B (bed & beer) was booked]. Newport is more expensive than most other coastal towns, so we were looking for relative value. The Whaler is in a nice location, the rooms are all very clean and have balconies with ocean view (a huge plus in my preferences). Free wireless, comfortable beds, the sounds of the ocean providing a relaxing atmosphere. Free breakfast & coffee is basic, but appreciated. Nothing shouted 'spectacular' but it was a nice place to relax after a day of driving.

We stayed 3 nights at the Whaler, and it was young son's favorite hotel on our trip. We stayed on the first floor, but still had a terrific view of the ocean from our balcony. The rooms were large, clean and quiet. The free popcorn was a huge hit; we must have eaten three bags each every day. I don't know why more hotels don't offer popcorn because it's that kind of detail that will ensure that I stay at the Whaler again next time we're in Newport. The pool and hot tub were also nice. An added bonus was that it was only a short walk to the historic Nye Beach area with some great restaurants and cute buildings. All in all, a really pleasant stay.

We were on third floor, but all rooms have a balcony and ocean view. Our room was a king with fireplace. It was very roomy and nicely furnished. Breakfast is minimal but is adequate to start the day. Friendly staff and within walking distance of about 10 restaurants. Great choice in Newport.

This is where we will be staying for all our future trips to Newport. Only allotted two nights in our schedule for Newport, but we both wished we could have stayed longer. The room was so comfortable and spacious it felt like a home away from home. The problem was was that the view of the ocean was so captivating that we really had to put some effort into leaving the room. I couldn't even read a book or watch TV, my eyes were so glued to the ocean. Granted we had nice, sunny (although hecka windy) weather; but still.

Check in was easy and accurate. We had reserved a King Room on the third floor (they have an elevator), and we will be asking for that from now on. Like I said, the room is spacious with lots of room to walk around. It has a fireplace, a desk, a table and chairs, and that balcony. It also has a little mini-kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, sink, and utensils and dish towels and dish soap. This was so very convenient when we just wanted something in the room when we didn't feel like going out to eat.

The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom and shower were great. We loved getting coffee and popcorn in the lobby, too. It was so nice to have real mugs, too - not that stupid styrofoam. They also provide cables to hook up your laptop to their internet if you did not bring one (since more places go wifi). That was thoughtful. The indoor pool was popular, and I saw the treadmill and elliptical machine being used. (I had wished they had one more of each because when I wanted to use them they were busy.)

The access to the beach across the street was easy - and the beach goes for miles in either direction. It is a wide, easy-walking beach that is super clean.

And the best thing is that they accept pets. You, of course, cannot leave your pet in the room - yet it's so nice to be able to travel with our dog. They give you a sheet for the dog if you want him on the furniture and a couple of "business bags."

We thought the rate was extremely reasonable for the spaciousness of the room and the view. Because we went during their June prices, their room turned out to be only about $20 extra a night, compared to the La Quinta (which is fine but it's not on the ocean and has no view) that we stayed in in 2007. Both places offer breakfast items, juices, and coffee. So the "splurge" was a no-brainer.

This place deserves our highest recommendation - although try to keep it amongst yourselves. Once you stay there, you will understand that we need to keep a little quiet about this one.

We found The Whaler through Trip Advisor reviews...and we're glad for the recommendation! We originally planned to stay 2 nights, but enjoyed ourselves so much that we stayed for 4 nights instead! We didn't have any reservations, but we got a discounted walk-in rate. However, we had to move to a different room for the last 2 nights, as our original room was pre-booked for the weekend and the place was full. Both rooms we stayed in were spacious, clean and very comfortable, with a beautiful ocean view from the balcony. Nothing like waking up and sleeping to the sound of the ocean! Front office staff were always friendly and helpful. Breakfast (muffins, bagels, cereal, coffee/tea/juice/milk) and newspapers were included. We loved the location - right on Nye Beach, which was absolutely gorgeous for walking, running, or flying kites in! Just a few minutes drive to the bayfront and Yaquina Bridge/light house. We would have stayed longer if only we could have!

We chose The Whaler because of the good reviews on TripAdvisor and were not disappointed. Our very large room overlooked the ocean which was awe inspiring. The kitchen area contained crockery and cutlery and other equipment which meant that guests could cook in the microwave and eat in the room if they wished. We loved our stay at this hotel. If Newport had better weather (very similar to our own west coast) we would definitely stay there again. As another reviewer said, the desk staff were above-average in offering their assistance.

We chose the Whaler not knowing too much about the Oregon coast - it was a perfect spot. The staff was friendly & tried to be helpful with meal suggestions. Fresh coffee being available in the lobby was nice, as well as the popcorn snack. Breakfast offered bagels, toast & muffins - enough to put a little something in your tummy before exploring for the day.

Our room was a king deluxe & was quite spacious offering a sink, microwave & frig. The bed wasn't the comfiest but it was clean & the roar of the ocean outside ensured a good night's sleep. The view is amazing!

The bathroom had a bit of an old fashioned feel to it but shower was strong & did what a bathroom was supposed to do. If we ever make it back to the west coast again, I would definately stay here again!
