“Great location-xlent hotel”

This Best Western Agate Beach is large enough to GET a room, even if the town is crowded. When we arrived in the evening we were amazed to find most of the hotels with 'NO VACANCY', due to a Jazz Festival. We were most delighted with the hotel. It was on the beach, near the quiet end of town, and had everything we needed, and more. The room we had was so very clean, and there was plenty of places to park. The staff was helpful, and the common areas were very nice. We did not eat there, but loved the town. It is big enough to have everything you might need, but small enough to still be quaint.

For my husband's 30th birthday we wanted to do something special but cheap and easy. So, we decided on a weekend road trip down the coast to Newport Beach. We stayed at the Best Western Agate Beach Inn because it was beachfront, accepted pets and was affordable.

I have stayed at many Best Westerns and have never been disappointed. For budget travel, they've totally got it right. I never hear people through walls (Days Inn), I never feel dirty (Super 8) and the stays are all, at the very least, acceptable (unlike Choice Hotels).

The Best Western Agate Beach Inn exceeded all my expectations. Although the motel is not right on the beach, there is nothing but a short, lovely walk and a deserted road between you and the lovely beach. This beach was so nice and calm and empty. It was truly a lovely, budget birthday weekend and one that we hope to duplicate again. The pet rooms are on the top (6th) floor. We had ocean view w/ balcony. It was very nice!

The restaurant was nice, too, for a budget hotel. Both restaurants close early, though, so no late night room service, which was surprising, but I got over it.

  • Liked — Pet rooms were on the top floor w/ ocean view
  • Disliked — food service ended too early
  • Tips/Secrets — reserve ocean side, if possible

This was not a good experience at all.

While the Hotel is nice (even though the balconies are only 18 inches deep) and the location is pretty, the hotel management/personel where incompetent.

We had many many problems.

Check in was a disaster, people at the hotel that initiate reservations were very accommodating and as we had a large group and a lot of children we wahted to make sure adjoining rooms were all taken care of. Which the Reservation people spent an hour taking care off. However, when we arrived we were quite suprised to find that what we had been told was not true, none of the suposedly blocked out rooms were available and the rooms they did schedule had parents in one room and there small children 3 doors or more down the hall. The attitude of the manager seemed to be "I could care less". After about 30 minutes they finally got us registered into rooms, not the ones we needed, but none the less rooms.

However, there werent ready yet and they promised they would be ready on time by 4 pm. At 4 pm our rooms still were not ready .

Also, It took 3 requests and 3 hrs to get 1 roll away bed.

Maid Service was another problem and they never did get our refrigerator or microwave working in the room, after 5 requests I quit asking.

My advice, go somewhere else, there are much better hotels in Newport.

My husband and I recently completed our trip to Portland and Seattle with a trip down the Oregon coast. Since we weren't sure where we were going to be stopping for the night we eventually chose this hotel on the recommendation of our AAA tourbook and were quite pleased.

The view was even lovelier than expected and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food in the restaurant. The hotel had a number of conveniences including an in-room microwave, refrigerator, and coffee maker as well as an Internet kiosk for use of hotel guests.

My only complaint might be the firmness of the mattress-a bit too much for my taste.

I found the staff to be pleasant and accommodating and would recommend this property to others.

With the spectacular ocean views and lovely grounds, we'd expected a little more personality from the traditionally fine Best Western service.

We'd hoped that a promised Saturday nite bbq and happy hour would bring some life to the staff and guests...but alas...it was not to be. The most exciting thing was that a wedding was being held and several of the wedding guests stayed too long at the bar and ended up loudly getting sick in the lovely landscaping of the grounds. Aaaah, the sounds of drunks and the distant surf. :)

Great location, nice enough rooms, but altogether forgetable.

They have some of the best clam chowder in Newport! I have sampled many different chowders in Newport, Lincoln City, Depoe Bay, etc. and I like the chowder here over places like the Blackfish Cafe, the Chowderhouse, Mo's, and more.

I stayed at this hotel while on business in Newport. I brought my teenage daughter along and she had a great time running around the hotel and beach all day while I was working. The staff was extremely friendly to her as well. The indoor pool was nice. The rooms were spacious and had a mini refrigerator and microwave. The oceanfront view rooms are well worth the extra money, as the view is great.
The only downside is the restauraunt is overpriced and the food is not that good, with the exception of breakfast which was great! Also the parking is a little inconvienent, but the rest of the hotel makes up for it.
