Most of the shops have the obvious nautical themes but there are several good art galleries. If you like attractions like Ripley's Believe It or Not or the Wax Museum, then they are right there on the bay front too. Lots of glass art stores as well.

We recently visited Newport's historic bayfront and enjoyed a quiet stroll through the shops. Because it was winter and few tourists were out and about, we got to chat with local shop owners and staff. It was enjoyable hearing about their life in that area and what they see and do for fun. Local artists sell beautiful works of art as well. Winter is a great time to visit the area ... few tourists and lots of options for both dining and lodging.

Lots of little shops and places to check out. Especially fun when the coastal weather is good. We were there during the Wine and Seafood Festival so most shops were open.

We enjoyed walking down the bayfront street, and stopping in some of the shops. The highlight of the area, was standing on one of the docks on the far end of the street, and watching and listening to the California Sea Lions. They were so entertaining and 'sunbathed' on a small floating dock. Views from the Bayfront of the beautiful bridge and boats passing by was also fun to see. There were some good prices on Boat & Fishing Tours that left from that area also.

The old bayfront is interesting, but a tourist trap of sorts. Many people go there and parking is a problem. There are some nice features, aquarium, Mo's, Ripley's believe or not, bayfront but it is not my favorite spot in Newport. (See my review of Nye Beach.) Taffic in that are during the season is a challenge in season, and you really should see it all once, but once is enough. Not much changing over the years.
