“Hands on science”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

We spent a cold and rainy morning here, having a wonderful time and learning a considerable bit about the ocean and sea life in the process. Among the highlights were the hands-on tanks where kids of all ages could touch starfish, anemones, and other sea life. A great place to visit in any weather!

“Good to see and touch...”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

Admission to the Marine Science Center is free by donation, unlike the aquarium which is expensive.

The exhibits here are informative and we spent longer here than expected. Touching the starfish etc. was unique. (A staff member watches closely to make sure children are gentle when touching)

“Great place to visit on the Oregon Coast.”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

Obviously Newport Oregon is also known for The Oregon Coast Aquarium, but the Hatfield Marine Science Center has been there longer and it only costs what you can put in the donation bin which can be much cheaper. They have an octopus, fish and a touching pool. Lots of things to read and learn whether your a kid or an adult. Anyone with kids and are on a budget while visiting Newport Or, this is a great place to spend an hour or so. Also you are not far from seeing the large NOAA research ships next door.

“Very Informative and Interactive!”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

The Hatfield Marine Science Center is a great facility full of lots of information and interactive games and videos. The staff is very informative and friendly. There is a section to pet sea stars, sea slugs, and other aquatic wildlife. They have many tanks filled with different kind of fish from the area.

Make sure to take the kids and have a great time learning!

“Great place to take the kids”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

Great for adults too. AND it is free. Neat hands on exhibits for the kid; interesting exhibits for adults too. There is a small theater that has continuous short films. Plan on about 90 minutes to 2 hours
