“Sea of Lights in December”
Reviewed January 9, 2014

We're locals and always attend the popular Sea of Lights each December. But last year, it was so crowded we took one look at the line stretching more than 100 yards and didn't even try to park.

However, good news! This year the aquarium, with sponsorship from Walmart, expanded the days to all weekends in December! We and some friends went on the last weekend.

Wow, what a difference. Plenty of easy parking, and even though there were a lot of visitors, it was not wall-to-wall jammed as it had been in recent years.

We hadn't seen the "Megaladon" jaws before - that was awesome! Although it was dark in the outside tanks, we were able to see one of the sea otters on the surface, right near the glass wall. They're such cute little critters :-)

The jellyfish are always impressive. Keiko's old tank was the most crowded (and noisy!) area, but we were able to see the various sharks.

The lights were lovely and I think there were more than there were two years ago.

It would be great if there could be some singers - between the schools and various local groups I bet people would volunteer for each weekend.

I hope that the aquarium is able to continue to offer the Sea of Lights extra weekends in the future! Well worth attending.

“the touch tank is awesome”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

Visited on a cold and snowy day. Seeing the marine creatures was very interesting. The touch tank w/ starfish, anemones and sea urchins was awesome.

Reviewed January 5, 2014

I have not been to the Oregon Coast Aquarium in almost 20 years but it was just as much fun for me this time as it was when I was a kid.

“So much to see and learn!”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

I love this aquarium. If you time it right, you can watch the animals being fed. The day we went, the octopus was particularly active. The variety of marine animals and plants are a real educational experience for everyone. I never get tired of visiting.

“Great place for 10 and under. ”
Reviewed December 17, 2013 via mobile

If you have teens don't bother unless you want to listen to them lament about boredom. Frankly they would be justified in doing so as this aquarium is geared more for kids 2 to 10. There are no shows at least there weren't any the day we went. If you take your time you can see everything in 90 minutes. The price was a little steep for such a small place. If you're military, they offer a discount. There is a nice little coffee shop and a separate simple restaurant that sells burgers, chicken nuggets and some sandwiches (good french fries). The have tons of volunteers who were all very nice.

Hi Ken,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback to us. We value your insight very much. You addressed that there were no shows during your visit. We do have three sea otter feeds and two sea lion and seal feedings that occur every day. We space them out throughout the day with some being in the morning, mid-day, and afternoon. I’m sorry that your family was unable to see these presentations. We will make sure our admission staff is properly pointing them out to guests upon their arrival.

We hope you still had a fun visit.

Thank you,
