Elizabeth Street Inn
Ranked #4 of 24 Hotels in Newport
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 29, 2012

I had to come to Newport for a business trip, and the options here aren't so impressive.

However, the Elizabeth Inn is excellent and just like the reviews said--high end but not expensive, very nice and clean rooms (they actually look like the photos), and super friendly and helfpul staff.

I'm very glad I stayed here.

This appears to be about the nicest place to stay on the beach at Newport. It's basically a motel-type property which has been upgraded with spacious rooms that have a feeling of luxury. It's located on a nice section of the beach, and there are a couple of very good restaurants within walking distance. Parking is free and on-site in a covered garage area. The staff here were especially friendly, and this in itself is unusual for a beach motel. It's pricier than others along the beach strip, but overall worth the money.

Our king suite was very nice---well equipped with large flat screen TV, nice mirrors, a comfortable sofa, and a fireplace (we couldn't get ours to work, but didn't need it as the room was a little too warm anyway). The room has good lighting, a plus for bedside reading, etc. There is a small indoor pool and a small fitness room (which is more like a closet). However, the pool and fitness room don't open until 8AM, a negative if one is a business traveler. The free breakfast was OK, about what you get in a Hampton Inn or the like. Overall, we found the hotel to be much better than average for a beach place.

When the original reservations were made for the two rooms for three nights we were going to have to change rooms the third night. Upon checking in the ladies did some shuffling and all they could to make that not have to happen. They worked with us on a couple of other issues and the entire 4 days were the MOST helpful and courteous people we have encountered in many travels. THANK YOU. We will be back.

Room Tip: All rooms are ocean view

I will pass on your kind remarks to the staff. They always try to accommodate our guests as best they can, and if they can work it out where you don't have to move it is a win win for all concerned.

See you next time!

It was raining and dark and we were fortunate to come across the Elizabeth Street Inn. Great front desk staff (Beth), they were helpful in giving us a good restaurant recommendation. Rooms were good (we were travelling with another couple so needed 2 rooms). My only slightly negative comment was that the bathroom was very plain and flushing the toilet was not so easy. When it did flush it made a very loud noise. The 2 level parkade is convenient and secure.

Wife & I have stayed here twice, very nice place. Very nice, updated, clean, high end rooms for an inn, more condo style. Great staff & little extras like free chowder and homemade cookies. Pretty decent breakfast and rooms have a great view. A little higher priced them some other in the area, but a decent value for what you get. We stayed in the king with jetted tub last time, nice, but tub was in the main room.

We were not planning to stay at this hotel as we thought it was too expensive. But I happened to pick up one of those hotel coupon books while we were in Coos Bay and the Elizabeth Street Inn had a coupon ($139/night). So, we tried it. Check in was easy and the lady helping us was vey nice. We had a 2 queen room. The gas fireplace and balcony were wonderful. We loved sitting outside and watching the sun set and then the fishing boats moving back/forth. The bed was very comfortable and there was a lot of space in our room. Breakfast was ok. I thought they had a decent variety of items. (I'm not real picky though - so I may not be the best judge). The hotel sits up 'above' the beach and as others have mentioned there are a LOT of stairs. Might be an issue if you have bad knees. We didn't think it was an isse though.
Check out was easy. They have 2 levels of parking. We were on the bottom level. I felt very safe and secure in the parking lot.
I would definitely recommend this place.

Those coupons can really come in handy! It sounds as though you had a wonderful time watching the sunset and fishing boats. It can be so relaxing, can't it?

Liked the fireplace, fridge and balcony for every room. Breakfast is chaos but the evening cookies are delicious. Housekeeping hours are limited so beware if you get back to take an afternoon nap and your room hasn't been cleaned. You will be skipped!
