“Wonderful place to stay”
Reviewed October 9, 2012

Incredible views from all rooms, large comfortable rooms with fireplace, nice balcony, robes, welcoming staff with salmon chowder each night. Nice breakfast. Only one slow elevator. Difficult walk back from the beach due to the # of steps - I counted 94 of them, not the fault of the hotel. Walking distance to downtown. Nearby Georgie's restaurant was excellent too.

Room Tip: they are all similar, take any one!

Thanks so much for the review! It sounds like you took the stairs up from the Shilo next door, there is an easier approach just North of us and it is a more gradual path, as opposed to the stairs. We are lucky to have so many excellent places to eat in Newport.

Come back and see us soon!

We stayed here when it first opened maybe 20 years ago. Previously it was pet free but since then it has made 5 rooms available for travelers with dogs. This was a very pleasant surprise for us as we now travel with our small dog. The Elizabeth is one of the finest accomodations on the Oregon Coast. The Newport area has many nice oecanfront resorts so the competition must be fierce to attract guests and the Elizabeth Inn goes all out for its guests. To start with the view is spectacular and all rooms have large balconys, almost lanai's, that have glass instead of rail security panels so as to offer an unobstructed view. The rooms are equiped with microwaves, refrigerators, and now Keurig coffee makers, and oversized flat screen TV's. There is a heat producing gas fireplace and also a ceiling fan for air circulation. The beds were very comfortable and there were four pillows on each which were suprisingly comfortable, and I am picky about pillows. All parking is onsite and covered on two lower levels. The staff treats you like a guest instead of a customer, meaning they are helpful and eager to please. While we were there, they served smoked salmon chowder at 5pm each day in the lobby or provided trays to take it to your room to enjoy from the view on your private balcony. At 8pm it was fresh baked cookies and coffee! In the morning the hot breakfast was provided that included bacon/sausage, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, cereal, bagels/toast, coffee, fruit, and 4 selections of juice. All in all, a great two night stay while in Newport. Oh, and by the way...Our first stop to get a room was the Hallmark (one of our favorites also) almost next door but they were full so we tried the Best Western but they were also full, so they called ahead to make the reservation for us at the Elizabeth Street Inn. Now that is customer service that we appreciate!

Room Tip: Best pet rooms are 126, 128 for views that don't look over the pool roof.

What an outstanding review! Thank you so much! I will call Best Western and thank them for recommending us too. This review certainly made our day!

We just put the Keurig coffee pots in and they have been a big hit.

See you soon!

What a fantastic position! It's wintertime and the ocean is roaring outside and we are warm and toasty inside with the fire on. The room was clean and presentable with tea and coffee making facilities. The biggest drawback was the breakfast. The breakfast room must surely have been an after thought as it is cheap cafe style and the food was sub-standard. It was buffet style, with soft waffles, cereal and coffee...the usual continental. Then there was a thing called a breakfast sausage. Unlike anything we had ever seen and certainly not something we would ever consider eating. The coffee was vile too. We skipped breakfast altogether. So take something with you or go elsewhere to eat.

This inn is fantastic! I can't think of a negative! We arrived on a rainy, chilly and very foggy evening. We could hardly see the ocean from our oceanfront room, but we sure heard it roaring all nite, which was wonderful! The room was spotless and very, very comfortable. The front desk was friendly, helpful and directed us to the close-by Georgies Restaurant (separate review). The only thing that could have made the stay better was sunshine! Good breakfast included. (I just read a very negative review and it is hard to believe we were at the same place!

Will stay here again. The room was nice sized, clean, full of amenities, and the view was outstanding. Even the decor in the hallways was nice. The pool was a comfortable temperature with a view of the ocean. The staff was extremely friendly. We were there during my daughters birthday and they wished her happy birthday and gave her warm cookies before setting them out for others. It made her feel special. We had made reservations for two nights and ended up staying an extra night.

The fireplace at night was nice but was on a timer so I had to keep getting up and cranking the clock. We really expected to love this place but were disappointed. Probably the least appealing ocean view place we ever stayed at. We were going to stay 2 nights but after arriving we changed to 1 night. The front desk was nice and didn't charge any cancellation.

Overall the town of Newport wasn't really our style.

Pros - good TV lineup, ocean view, fireplace
Cons - no direct access to beach, parking on lot side facing ocean left front of hood covered in bird droppings, hotel rundown a little and run by high school kids who seemed well intentioned, breakfast area was tiny and wasn't very good
