We went to Recipe last night for dinner. We made a reservation for 7 pm and were seated promptly. The menu is relatively small, but we assume that is to insure that all the menu items are of excellent quality. Most of the items seemed to be French style meals, which suited us. We had the escargot to start- my husband had never had escargot, and was nervous, but he admitted that it was delicious, and I am embarrassed to say we nearly licked our plate clean. We then ordered the flat iron steak (cooked perfectly), and the duck confit (also deliciously prepared) and both were excellent. The sauces and sides paired perfectly with the meat. We were not hungry for dessert, but the options looked excellent, and I was very impressed to see the option of a cheese platter to enjoy after dinner.
The wine menu was extensive with a range of price points- many of the wines were local, but there was also several "old world" selections. We chose a very interesting Syrah (Fousse Piste), which our waitress described as more fruit forward than a traditional Syrah with less pepper and we liked that very much. We also enjoyed a cava and an IPA on top as aperitifs (though my husband wasn't as impressed with the local IPA, as he's more accustomed to hoppier versions, it was still good).
Our waitress, Ansley, was excellent. She was friendly without being intrusive, prompt and very knowledgeable about the menu. She was quick to make recommendations, answered all our questions, and even went out of her way to find out if anywhere locally was still open for wine sales after our meal. She was very familiar with the wine menu, and described a few of the wines in great detail, which was very helpful when we were trying to choose a bottle. We really couldn't have asked for a better server.
I would call the ambiance rustic chic. The lighting was low, and the presentation very "French" and pristine, but much of the decor was rustic, which seemed very fitting for a restaurant boasting locally prepared food.
Overall, great experience! I would definitely recommend Recipe to others.
