The Allison was the perfect spot to return to after a day of vineyard-hopping and exploring the small towns in the Willamette Valley. Larger than we expected, it still had a soothing atmosphere and relaxing vibe. Our room which was on the top floor, was very quiet. It overlooked the manicured grounds and the large, inviting seating area at the rear of the hotel. It had a cozy window seat with throw, small patio, a gas fireplace, a nice-sized working desk area, club chair with ottoman for reading near the fire, very large bathroom with all the nice amenities, including robes, a very comfortable bed, and wonderful black-out shades which lowered from the ceiling. The healthy snacks and water, which await every guest, were a nice touch. The staff was very friendly and helpful; to a person everyone asked how we were enjoying our stay, and genuinely wanted to make things perfect for us. We did not try the spa, so I cannot comment on that. We ate breakfast at the hotel, which was quite good, but no other meals. The hotel's restaurant is reputed to be quite good; if we had had another evening, we would have tried it. There are so many nice things to do and see in the area, it is not easy to fit them all in...we will have to return.

Room Tip: Corner suites are larger, but all the rooms seem to have plenty of space and feel quite comfortable...

Outstanding -- spacious rooms (and bathrooms) with great materials (wood, stone, glass, fabric, etc.). Great staff and facilities, very nice grounds as well. A bit pricey, but worth it ! A bit of an oasis in the neighbrohood.

We planned to stay a few nights in the middle of our Oregon tour. However, they only had availability for one night and we are so glad that we decided to take the one night. The rooms were perfect! The little water cartons and snacks they provide at no charge was an added bonus after being out tasting wine all day. The spa was amazing!! I enjoyed a relaxing massage and facial and they were both so wonderful! The pool and hot tub room is just gorgeous and we enjoyed relaxing after our long day! The gym was gorgeous and was a nice place to get an early workout in.

Wonderful stay at the Allison Inn! Had requested a room opening to lavender fields and not only had they honored that, they also had put fresh lavender in the room!

The staff was collectively attentive and accommodating. The room was beautiful and the food at the Jory a sensory & culinary delight.

Both of us agreed that when our travel plans return us to Oregon (and they will), a longer stay at the Allison is in order. Well done!

In all the years that I've been traveling to the Oregon Coast I would have described Newberg, OR as little more than a bad traffic jam and a good rest stop along 99W before the final push over the coastal range to Lincoln City. That has all changed. Fueled by the growth of Oregon's wine industry and the tourists that flock to the more than 200 wineries in the Willamette Valley, Newberg is turning into a legitimate resort destination. The crown jewel of which is The Allison Inn & Spa.

My wife and had originally planned to stay at The Allison for the first two nights of a six night road trip south to the northern California coast. Our two days at The Allison we so relaxing and pleasant, over breakfast before checkout we literally said to each other, "Why don't we just stay here for our vacation?" We ended up enjoying four nights and five days before heading home relaxed, happy, and completely rejuvenated.

Before I continue I should state the obvious. The Allison is expensive. Far and away the most expensive property in the area, though easily a bargain compared to some of the best resort properties in the world (and it deserves the comparison). Two people who stay, dine, spa, and drink can count on spending an average of $500 USD per day. You can spend less but people come here to be pampered and relax, not to pinch pennies. Although in this regard, The Allison comes out on top as well. Few things about hotels irk me more than than being hit with petty charges for every little convenience. Especially at a five star property. The Allison does it right. Refrigerated, bottled water each day free of charge. A complementary selection of chips, chocolates, and granola bars in your your room. Valet parking (minus tips of course) included in the room rate. Hotel WiFi is free, and coffee is set out every morning in the lobby until 10AM. It just feels so nice to have my room rate cover the basics of a comfortable stay.

The restaurant, bar, and spa could each be the subject of a full review. I'll leave that to others. It suffices to say that the amenities are top-notch, nicely designed, and very well run. If you're curious you should know that there an indoor pool and hot tub, a wonderful fitness center, restaurant, bar, indoor lounge, outdoor lounge, and vast amounts of outdoor seating and walking trails. The rooms are contemporary and comfortable with comfy beds, automatic blackout blinds, gas fireplaces, and spacious bathrooms with large tubs.

What really blew me away though was the simply outstanding service. The staff was always willing to go the extra mile. We enjoyed the cucumber water they had in the spa so they brought some to our room (gratis). When I left the hotel to tour the area they offered to refill our water bottles with ice water for the trip. When we headed out for a drive they were ready with advice of scenic roadways and parks to visit. I didn't care for a cocktail they made. It was comped and replaced. From the valets to the front desk and all the wait staff, whenever we wanted something, it was provide quickly and with a smile. I can't say enough about them. The staff is wonderful.

A couple of quick tips as well. I recommend that you make your spa and dining reservations before you arrive. They can get busy, and while they'll do their best to accommodate you, it would be as shame to miss out. Also, you should dine at their restaurant, Jory, more than once. The menu changes regularly and everything we had was wonderful. Make a point too to sit at the chef's counter during one of your meals. You'll have a lot of fun watching the kitchen in full swing and will probably enjoy a special treat from the chef. Also, if you eat pork, have anything made with their pork belly. Its fabulous.

The Allison isn't a place for people looking for constant activity and stimulation. But if you're looking for a place to relax and unwind, and perhaps spend some quality time with a loved one, then look no further. If you do venture away from this Shang-Ri La, the ocean is a little more than an hour away, there are some scenic drives, and many wineries and local eateries to occupy your time.

Most people would never think of Oregon, let alone Newberg, as a place to go enjoy a destination resort. That's fine, the rest of us can share our little secret.

Room Tip: You can't go wrong with any of their rooms.

Thank you for your review - it's exceptionally informative, and thorough enough to satisfy any potential guests and all their questions. If any remain, don't hesitate to use our contact info at the top of our listing.

Thank you for your tips as well - it's a good idea to make spa and restaurant reservations prior to your stay, for sure. Having just received a number of accolades for our hotel and spa, it's likely that the best kept secret is going to simply become "the best". We are doing our best to cater to our guests though, so a couple days advance should be more than enough time.

With reviews like yours, it's not going to be long before the whole world takes note at our Oregon Hospitality. We appreciate the time you took to share, and it means a lot for the success of our inn. Cheers, thank you again, and we hope this finds you well!

Sincerely,
Michael | Online Concierge

Our experience at this inn was 100% positive, from the welcome at the valet parking and the front desk all the way through checkout. We were traveling with our dog, who thoroughly enjoyed himself (and the gourmet dinner included with the pet fee). The rooms are lovely, genuinely tasteful, very well thought-out and constructed to a high quality. Our ground-floor room opened to a rather magical garden space. Dinner in the bar was very enjoyable, and the room service breakfasts were fine. Really, it can't be beat - and if it were in some other wine area (say, Napa) it would cost twice as much.
