Happy Camp Hideaway

We arrived for our 3pm check-in time to find an empty manager's office. We tried to call the number on the door but Netarts has extremely spotty cell service. So we just hung out on the beach waiting for someone to come...hours later, we flagged down a housekeeper who told us the door was open! Apparently it sticks, but how were we supposed to know that? The manager offered no apologies.
Cabin 7 was just fine -- shabby but comfortable as long as you don't plan on using the hard futon for a bed. The floor is quite warped as another reviewer mentioned -- get tipsy and you feel like it's a funhouse! We loved the beach access, as did our kid and dog. The kitchenette was great. It was really exactly what we were looking for as an inexpensive beach retreat. There is an awesome bonfire area and a cute little beachfront playground.
There was a large family reunion staying there at the same time as us, so it was a pretty loud party at night. This was not really a big deal, but then around midnight someone drove up in a Happy Camp truck (the manager's son, maybe?) with a couple of drunk buddies and started LOUDLY loading wood and yelling to each other right next to our cabin. It woke all of us up. We complained the next morning when we checked out. Instead of apologizing, let alone offering us any sort of discount for the hours we spent waiting to be let in to our cabin or our lost sleep, the manager completely shrugged it off.
So, it is what it is. It's a decent price, clean, a great view, and a decent place to stay. But don't expect even a cheap motel's level of service.

I will try and keep this brief: We booked last minute and were lucky enough to get the big house for a night. This place is so amazing. The porch views are all you need, but definitely the full kitchen/living room, washer/dryer and the two bedrooms (upstairs) was what made this like having our own home practically on the beach.

Teresa who I dealt with was awesome and very cool to deal with. She had a casual vibe that I like and it felt like renting from a friend.

The sunset I saw was one of nicest, and I hesitate to post pictures then not be able to rent the next time I visit because this is the first place I will return to on the Oregon Coast other than the amazing state parks.

Bottom line: I could spend my life watching the tide come in and out here. I guess the bad weather might get depressing but we only had sun and I loved it here.

Happy Camp has all kinds of options! Owners Bruce & Teresa maintain awesome little cabins on beachfront right at the mouth of Netarts Bay. They also manage several large, newer homes with values upwards of $1M.

The cabins are mostly one and two bedroom, they all have one bath and fully equipped kitchens. They are decorated and charming, however, the structures may be a bit tilted as the foundations seem to be rock. There are city/county issues with allowing major structural changes, blah blah blah. But, they are always clean, bright, and fun! There is a giant house that sleeps 10 or 12 that's really fun to stay in with the high balconies and decks. You are literally about 50' from the beach. A favorite occupation while sitting on the deck is to count the number of boats out in the bay crabbing. Netarts is a very laid back area, and Happy Camp becomes like home very quickly. There is even a fire pit where you can build a fire to roast marshmallows at night, and a cute pirate's lookout for the kids to play on. At night, the place is decorated up with white lights in the shape of palm trees and starfish. It's like an old fashioned family resort, but smaller. We love it.

Our family stayed in one of the houses (Bay Haven) managed by Teresa of Happy Camp Hideaways. This house has everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay in Netarts. One big cozy great room where you can cook and hang out while enjoying the lovely bay and ocean views all at the same time was so much fun! It was such a nice experience, I could've stayed indoors the whole time simply enjoying the views; however, walking the beach along side the bay or the ocean was also great fun! And don't forget to have a great meal at The Schooner!

Yes, it's a bit rustic (if you are a sissy), but it's cute, clean, affordable, good service, nice people and TOTALLY PET FRIENDLY!!! We loved walking our dog on the (OFF LEASH!) beach at all times of the day and looking at the ocean, the bay and the sunsets from our large windows--fabulous! We will be returning!

Room Tip: Cabin 9 Rocks! But they are all nice.

My third summer at Happy Camp and just as marvelous as all the others. Sun, shine, or fog, to sit on the deck, drink coffee, and listen to the ocean is an incomparable experience. To walk the beach in the early morning, to watch the occasional jogger, to take excursions to a variety of local attractions--including an excellent book store in Tillamook--are all great experiences. The cream on the coffee is the location--sandwiched between Cape Lookout and Cape Meares, within driving distance of the rock formation known as the Three Graces and Barview Jetty State Park where one may greet the entrance of the Pacific Ocean into Tillamook Bay.
Once past the modern rentals and into the small collection of old (but with completely updated kitchens) cabins, one can easily imagine themselves in a small beach community of fifty years ago, on a beach which is happily uncrowded, populated by a great collection of traveling singles, families including grandparents and grandchildren, and young couples. The cabins are dog friendly as long as the dogs are well controlled and well behaved.

This is not for everyone. The furniture is mismatched, and the floors have occasional soft spots. The traveler who insists on everything being immaculate and up to date needs to go elsewhere. The traveler who wants to walk the beaches , drink coffe or wine--their choice--and look at the waves, meet a great manager , relax and listen to the ocean, and, at least in my cases, fall gratefully into a soft and welcoming bed at night, needs to come to Happy Camp Hideaway.

Room Tip: Cabin Number nine is the most private--and the most fully booked!

We have stayed in different Happy Camp homes for several years and have always been pleased with the accommodations. The Strand is lovely and O'Hearns Heron is a great place. My daughter honeymooned in Cabin #9 and was pleased with it. But Cabin #7 is a dump and should be condemned. The floor slopes in two different directions and every time you try to walk around it is like walking in a fun house! The furniture had holes in it and was dirty. The bed sloped to one side because of the uneven floor and I thought I was going to fall out in the middle of the night. The stove had a burned that didn't work so a crock was shoved into the burner hole and kitchen utensils were stored in it. The whole back of the cabin was damp causing the towels and toilet paper to always feel damp. There was building supplies piled along the outside wall and we saw a rodent run into the pile. I was highly disappointed with this rental and will not stay in this cabin again. There are many nice places to stay at Happy Camp why stay in a cabin that is falling down? I love the area and I will be back I just won't stay at cabin #7!
