Our family wanted to surprise our 91 year old friend with dinner at Amadeus. He had been there in the past quite a few years ago and raved about the view and enjoyed the food as well. Well, we can't say the same this time. We requested to sit downstairs since the 91 year old gentleman could not go upstairs with his walker. There's no elevator by the way. When we arrived, the table was set up nicely but it was very dim since one of the chandeliers had no bulbs in it (why? We don't know) we had one (1) candle on our table for a party of nine (9). Candle shortage?? Bulb shortage?? Anyway, we had one person waiting on us who happened to be the owner I believe. She was very nice but seemed to be very rushed. We finally received our wine and other drinks and placed our order. We then did not see or we're acknowledged by any other staff members. They were all taking care of the more important customers on the second floor that had adequate lighting and music to listen to. We felt like the step children that were tucked away in the dungeon. When our food did arrive.....finally, it was good but not very warm. My seafood medley was supposed to have puffy pastry which was nowhere to be found on my plate. I was charged full price still. We're they out of puffy pastry or was that only for the people on the second floor? Hmmmm?? After a total of sitting in the dimly lit room/dungeon with no ambiance for 2.5 hours. We received our bill which was a total of over $380 dollars that included 18% gratuity that was not deserved since we were attended to so very little. We were all paying separately and asked the owner/waitress if she could give us our individual totals so we could pay the one person who was putting the entire tab on their credit card and she handed that task to a gentleman who acted totally inconvenienced with the task. We tried to figure the bill ourselves but non of us were experts in chicken scratch handwriting. Plus there were extra charges on there for god knows what!. Maybe they'll put the extra money they screwed us out of towards some lighting and entertainment for the customers that can't make it up the stairs.!! Then...yes, there's more... Getting out of the parking area above was a total joke. I love how they advertise valet parking but non was offered...WTF? It was also pouring down rain. Anyway, the parking on the upper level was so ridiculously small that technically no one should park there at all. It took us 15 minutes with 4 people watching each corner of the car so we wouldn't bash the other cars or drive off the embankment (which were family members of course) cuz heaven forbid that someone who worked there actually help out. Once we were free from being trapped in the "parking area" we saw that a tree had fallen on a customers car! Could it be because no one tends to the garden/trees outside?? That was just an accident waiting to happen and it did.... I went to this place years ago when it was called the fern wood. It was much classier and the place was taken care of much better than what the current owners are doing now. It's sad to see it this way and I/we will not be returning.

We went because my Father-in-law is Austrian, and we are always in search of great European cuisine. We had a great evening. It was a clear, warm evening and the view is amazing! The dining room was beautiful and there was a beautiful aroma in the air from the fresh cut flowers on every table. The owner was also our server and the food was amazing. The meal was leisurely paced, no one was in a hurry, we had great conversation with the owner, just a beautiful evening with great food. Beautiful location and building as well.

My husband and I came here on a whim, from a suggestion on the Open Table iPhone App ...
We LOVED it! The ambiance was romantic-ish and very...European B&B. the Hostess herself was beyond helpful and generous. The menu was pretty impressive considering the Hubs & I are what I like to call "Food Snobs" & frequent the local fine dining restaurants about town. Who ever is in the kitchen is extremely knowledgable in the Art of Classic French & Eastern European Cuisine. High class menu. Four thumbs up from this table!

Delightful, high character European restaurant with lots of fresh flowers - even in Winter. Great view of the hills of Portland with a superb menu. The duckling is fresh. This can be a challenge when demand outstrips supply. The filet "Oscar" had a nice blend of local Dungeness crab and Gorgonzola cheese. The schnitzel was most assuredly "Austrian Art," and was served with a small amount of an especially savory hunter sauce. The sorbet served between the appetizers and the entree was freshly shaved and skillfully presented with a garland of fresh flowers to cleanse the olfactory nerves as well as the palate - a very nice touch. Gute Geschmacht!

Sorry, this place may have once been a fine destination. Now it begs to be put out of its misery. Visit only if you are intrigued by this review.
