Pappy Gander's is your hometown cafe from thirty years ago. The mashed potatoes have real lumps in 'em, the chicken fried steaks have REAL cream gravy, and the breakfasts are robust and tasty.
Look, if you want fancy five star eatin', this ain't the place. But if you want honest down-home cookin', and lots of it, here's your best bet in three hundred miles. The floors are linoleum, the furniture is aging, but the cooking is out of this world. I stop here every time I'm passing through. If you miss those mom-n-pop restaurants of years past, (right down to the horse trailer in the parking lot and John Deer ballcaps at the counter) make a point of timing your visit to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner here. It's so worth the trouble, and if you go away hungry, it's your own darned fault.
Hope to see the folks there next month, when I'm up for some border collie doings. ;-)
