“It's just not the same anymore.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2013

Two years ago this restaurant had French style sauces and presentations. Last Saturday we went there and, while the menu was reasonably priced, $13-$25, the choices were mostly Italian items. A friend had the $13 special of tri-tip and was pleased. The ahi tar-tar was OK. Others at the table felt that the special experience was no longer available. Even desserts were limited to two choices. It's just not the same anymore.

“Our favorite neighborhood spot has fallen from grace.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 16, 2012

Cafe Dejeuner has the style and charm of a house-in-the-neighborhood type of place. The food has always been excellent and the service is always very friendly and professional. On a recent visit we noticed how the food has changed. The crabcake appetizer that we got, seemed like it was pre-fabbed and frozen from the supplier, and then warmed up at the restaurant. My wife's short ribs were flavorful (and big) but mostly comprised of fat. My swordfish had the appearance of a perfectly cut square piece of fish--and both it and the sauce that it was in was rather unremarkable. The freshest thing on my plate was the broccoli. The Creme Brulee was big and adequate for sharing and was very good. Since our last visit, they have changed Chefs, but it seems that the basic food products have been downgraded. In this economy they may have had to resort to less expensive provisions in their cuts of meat, fish etc... Very sad that a poor economy has affected this great place to dine!

“Like Visiting A Friend's House...Who Happens To Be A Gourmet Chef”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2012 via mobile

My wife and I and another couple went out on a Wednesday evening. I love this place-especially the patio on a warm evening- due to it's neighborhood-house-like setting! The food has always been excellent and the service always professional and attentive. Two of us had the Halibut and the other two had the pork-loin which was in lieu of the Bone-In Pork Chop-both excellent! We slowly made our way through two bottles of local Red and finished by splitting a couple of mud-pie slices with our respective spouses. Altogether an outstanding evening of dining and conversation in a setting that felt like a friend's house!

“Great find for lunch!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2012

Cafe Dejeuner is a great place to stop by for lunch. Located in a house, the cafe has outdoor seating as well. We had two salads: Texas Caesar and Chinatown Chicken. Both were carefully prepared and looked great when presented, and the flavors were just as inviting. The Texas Caesar had a cilantro-infused dressing while the Chinatown Chicken had a light ginger/soy dressing that complemented the chicken, sprinkled with black sesame seeds. As we were going to the Britt Festival that evening, we also ordered the Dejeuner Club which came with a pasta salad. What a treat later that evening! Don't miss this spot. We are looking forward to coming back for dinner!

“elegant food and atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2012

Husband and I in Medford for a convention. Shared an entree with room for dessert. We had the grilled chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, pancheta and grilled green beans. Dinner came with a salad (for each of us) -- there is a $5 fee to divide a dinner but well worth it. The salads were a work of art - as was the creme brule' dessert. Unless one wants a monstrous meal there was plenty to eat with the divided plates and the food was very good as well as lovely. Definitely plan to visit again. As a tourist town, they do not require one to "dress" for dinner, but this little gem would be perfect for intimate, romantic dinner.
