“Singularly the most awesome thing in Medford”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

For a father of two young boys, one of which LOVES trains, this was simply a magical visit. Keep in mind their limited hours, twice a month on Sundays? We unfortunately showed up on a Friday, but called the number on the gate and was treated to a private tour. It was so nice of the volunteer who made our entire vacation, even taking us on a ride or two of his own train. Needless to say, if you can plan a visit (during operating hours), this is as "kid-friendly" as it gets and will make your little ones very very happy. If you love old trains and history, this will also be right up your alley, so don't think its just for the little ones. I can't say enough good things about this place and their mission.

“Kids Parties”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

I have been here a couple of times for a child's birthday party. Inside the park they have an area for sitting under shade or in case of sudden rain storms. It is clean and the attendants are kind and great to the kids. The "conductor" takes the kids on rides and parents/adults are welcome to ride the trains as well. I feel younger children should be attended by adults or older children as they are not "held in" by any strap etc. Outside the park, the area is frequented by homeless people....I have not heard of any problems, but would not want to have children wander off by themselves. So if you take your children, stay with them, or make sure they are well supervised.

“Nice place to take your family”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

We have been here several time and lately they done a lot of work to the park to improve the atmosphere/experience. There are several clubs here; there is a HO model train club, a Live Steam train club that mostly features diesel engines that you can ride on, a Garden Railroad with several different tracks, a Morse Code Club, a Full sized Train club that has several real RR cars on display. If your family or kids like trains this is the place to be. They even have a small riding Thomas locomotive for little kids to ride. Admission is free but donations are accepted since everybody volunteers their time at these clubs. They also offer snacks like hot dogs and soft drinks at a small snack bar at very low prices. Great place to go on the weekends, but you need to check their schedule for when they are open to the public.

“One of those locally little-known icons”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Got kids who want to ride a choo-choo? Or maybe Dad has a fascination for steam engines? Everybody gets a stimulating moment at Medford Railroad Park. It's been there forever, and few visit frequently, but it's always there, and fascinating! Volunteers share their hobby generously, and bring rail to hands-on reality.
