Owner description: Yamhill Valley Vineyards is the oldest winery in the McMinnville AVA. We grow, produce and bottle all of our own grapes right here at the vineyard. Yamhill Valley Vineyards is located on a 150 acre estate in the rolling foothills of Oregon's Coast Range Mountains, one hour southwest of Portland in the Willamette Valley. The heart of our wine making is dedicated to Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Riesling. We have recently expanded our Chardonnay plantings and plan to release it to the public in the next few years. Since our first vintage in 1983 our wines have consistently won top honors in tastings and judgings across the nation. Our 1983 Pinot Noir was the first place preference in the famous Wine Center in New York City. From our beginning we have been stubbornly dedicated to the pursuit of a character that is distinctively Oregon and distinctively Yamhill Valley. Our goal is to bring forth from this unusual and exciting property the finest possible expression of its intensity, charm and uniqueness.

From the moment you drive onto this property, It's array of vineyards, rolling hills and beautiful trees just takes your breath away!! When you get to the tasting room, the anxious Koi fish await your arrival to their home "The Pond" and you can even feed them if you ask!! Inside the tasting room is a rather fun and friendly atmosphere and ouside the back door is a large deck where you can bring food or buy a glass of wine and sit and enjoy the gorgeous views. The employees are very delightful and willing to answer any questions you may have and will even give recommendations for other vineyards, wineries, food and lodging in the area. This Vineyard is 27 years old but kept very clean and tidy by it's staff. Their wines have won many awards throughout the years and when you taste it, you will know why.

We visited the winery yesterday and were very disappointed in the condition of the winery, tasting room and outdoor areas. There were spider webs all over in the tasting room, and just a general mess all around, with toilet paper even displayed on a dining table right in the middle of the room, dirty windows and all the photos in the room tilted (couldn't quite figure that one out!). The winery itself, in the middle of crush, looked just plain dirty.

This is a beautiful vineyard off of Hwy 18 with rolling hills filled with, especially right now, lovely vineyards. But the owners are missing a great opportunity to market and present themselves. Nothing is better than good word-of-mouth, and I don't know how anyone could speak hightly of this place.

We pleasantly asked the young woman serving at the tasting bar several quesitons about the winery, the area and the wines, and she could answer, in a not particularly pleasant way, maybe half of our simple questions.

The wines themselves? Very ordinary. And one Pinot noir we tasted was just plain awful.

We realize this is the middle of crush and winemaking time, but there is no excuse for a winery to be this run-down and dirty. None at all. In fact, this is when it should be its cleanest.
