DO NOT miss this museum if you are in the area. One of - if not the best - private collections of military and civilian aircraft in the world. No where else can you see the legendary Spruce Goose.
Collection ranges from small private aircraft up to and including many space travel capsules and equipment. Docents are friendly and helpful.
For families there is an indoor water park that must be seen to be believed.
My highest recommendation.

This museum, the home of the Spruce Goose, is an excellent attraction in the Willamette Valley. They must exhibit over 200 aircraft in two buildings plus outside displays. One building - with the Goose - is dedicated to propeller driven planes, the other to jets - including the SR-71 Blackbird- , rockets and helicopters. Be sure to take a tour with one of the docents. Our guide, Wayne, was a Navy aviation mechanic serving on carriers as well as Naval Air Stations. He brought the displays to life, answered our questions and provided great anecdotal comments.

What a fantastic museum, one of the best I've ever been to. The Spruce Goose is the star attraction, but there is many more things to see.

While the spruce goose is the main attraction, there is so much more to see and do. Plan on spending at least a half day to enjoy both air museums. You wont be disappointed. Great for the young, young at heart and everyone else at any age.

This was a fun afternoon and close to home... who knew! Between McMinnville and Dayton, OR on Rt. 18 is a great complex of entertainment opportunities. There is a theater and a water park with a 747 on top of it ~ with water slide tubes coming out of it... incredible! We visited the space and aviation museums. Both are very well done, very informative and well staffed with friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. The space museum details the "space race" from beginning to current endeavors. It has lots of fascinating information and artifacts from the Soviet space programs as well as many items from the US programs. The aviation museum contains the Spruce Goose, which is breathtaking in its enormity. Both museums contain many, many aircraft of all kinds - beautifully restored with informative signs, videos (with seating - airplane seats, what else!?!) all through the museums. There are activities for kids and a playground outside. It is a very worthwhile stop for visitors and Oregonians who may remember the Spruce Goose arriving in OR in 1993 but may not have visited.
