A'Tuscan Estate

We were greeted as we walked in the door by Liz, who showed us to our room and explained the features.

She inquired if we had dinner reservations, which we didn't, so after deciding on the Bistro Maison, she called and made reservations.

The room was very nicely decorated with lots of special touches. Everything from the lights to the rugs on the floor were perfect. Beautiful mirror in the bathroom almost looked like it came from on top of a dresser. Had shelves on the sides holding unique blue vases.

A large armoire hid the tv in the corner of the room. Subtle wall paper on the walls with velvet drapes and sheers covering the windows. Even the wooden doors were unique with a bumpy finish of some sort.

The bed was extremely comfortable with iron framework around the top and at the head and foot. A little teddy bear leaned against the pillows to welcome us.

The downstairs areas were also very nicely decorated with antiques. The living room had overstuffed couches and a couple of chairs with a large flat screen. The breakfast room was elegantly set with Italian looking tablecloths, linen napkins, and nice flatware and glasses.

Excellent breakfast by chef, Jacques, and service by Liz was impeccable.

Homemade flaky croissants with homemade, seedless blackberry jam and unsalted butter

Saffron creme brûlée with fresh blueberries, raspberries, and strawberry

Quiche with a crepe crust, black truffles, topped with truffle oil and, if desired, white truffle salt.

After we finished, Jacques came out and asked us how we liked the meal. Then told us the quiche was made with ostrich egg. He also commented that if we knew of anywhere else that would serve you truffles for breakfast, let him know because he would go there!

The quiche was light and fluffy, unlike any quiche I have ever eaten or made. Not sure if it was the ostrich egg that made it so or just his french cooking!

This was our first bed and breakfast experience and I don't think we could have picked a better place. Any others would have a hard time meeting our expectation after this!

Room Tip: I think all the rooms must be as good as ours, the Portofino.

Is there anything left to be said about the wonderful B&B that Liz and Jacque run in McMinville? The location is perfect, close to restaurants, wine tasting rooms and bars. The property is delightful. The gardens are immaculate. The breakfasts, prepared by Jacque and Liz are outstanding and the music that they play sets the tone for the day. The rooms are gorgeous, there is nothing missing. Suffice to say, Jacque and Liz have thought about it all to make sure that you have the most memorable stay and they are entirely hospitable. Definitely recommend A' Tuscan Estate Bed and Breakfast if you are staying within a 20 mile proximity of McMinville, OR.

Room Tip: Each room is unique. You will be happy with whatever room is available.

We just returned from our first trip to the Pacific Northwest..a definite highlight was staying here..comfy rooms, above and beyond breakfasts..especially the truffle quiche and fruit presentations..Jacques and Liz could not make us feel more at home. Hosts to commend..we were the only ones there those nights, so it was like staying in our own house!!!!

Liz and Jacques Rolland did everything possible to ensure that we had a great time in the Oregon Wine Country around McMinnville. Jacques is a wine expert (having published several books on wine) and he gave us pointers as to the wineries he thought we would most enjoy. He is also a professional chef and prepared what I think are THE best breakfasts we'd ever eaten at any B&B -- truly gourmet breakfasts! Liz advised us on dining (they eat out frequently so as to maintain up-to-date knowledge about nearby restaurants). We had a very large room, and all the rooms we saw on our floor looked large and comfortable. Every possible amenity, including especially luxurious pillows and bed linens, was offered. Having drunk all the wine we could and eaten as much as we could possibly manage, we left happy and sated in every way.

I was looking for something special and this truly turned out to be more than I expected. Jacque greeted us as we arrived. He showed us all around the house. Liz greeted us as well. Furnishings are beautiful! Our room reminded us of France and it brought back wonderful memories. Our room was small but very cozy and not on the street side. Breakfast the next morning, blueberry promegranate juice, fromage blanc with fresh berries, homemade croissants and jam, and an ostrich egg truffle quiche. We felt very spoiled and pampered! Jacque spent a lot of time talking with my husband regarding the remodling of the kitchen. We felt like we were at home. Looking forward to going back in the spring. It is a "must do" experience. Jacque has won many culinary awards and you need to check this out.

We stayed two nights in November; location to downtown McMinnville is perfect. Room was very comfortable and bathroom great! Our volcano tomato breakfast was outstanding. However; in spite of all the positive TA reviews, here's some honesty:
1. Our welcome snack was Hershey chocolate bar, not a warm cookie or a glass of wine (aren't we in wine country?)
2. The recommendations for restaurants seemed canned & rushed. We asked about Thai food & received a shrug, so we found it, and enjoyed, on our own.
3. Selling of truffle salt & oil is overly intrusive. In the end, we bought same, but there is no polite way to escape the sales pitch at breakfast.
4. While many people like dogs, we aren't two of them, and wish we had been told when I made the reservation, by phone, that a dog lived on premises and inhabited common area.
5. Owner, Jacques, hovered as we signed credit card (including tip) authorization. I don't mean he was in vicinity; I mean he stood and watched. I prefer to leave housekeeping tip, in cash. Mark felt pressured to do otherwise + overtipped, because we bought the salt/oil.
To end on a positive note, the breakasts were some of the best, beautiful dining decor, and we were served 1/2 hour early one morning.

TripAdvisor really did not let us down on this Bed and Breakfast. While visiting Oregon's wine country we wanted to stay at a cute B&B and A'Tuscan Estate was everything we could have wanted and more. Very accommodating, the decor is fabulous, the tinniest room still seemed to feel comfortable and inviting and don't get me started about Jacques cooking. The breakfast was superb. We woke up feeling refreshed and well taken care of. If you are visiting Oregon stay here!
