I have had the pleasure of staying at the Imperial River Company hotel on four separate occasions. My most recent stay was September 2012. Unfortunately, it was not nearly as pleasant as my previous visits. At this time of year, most of the guests are steelhead fishers and most of us get up very early in the morning. There were three of us in our party and we rented two rooms (Rooms 3 and 4). These two are located near the stairs leading up to rooms on the second floor. Everytime someone walks past these two rooms, the noise will ,wake you or keep you awake. If you're looking to get a good night's sleep and hit the sack early, these two rooms should be avoided.

I've stayed in several of the other rooms and they have all been comfortable, clean and quiet. Rooms 3 and 4 are not good for getting a good night's sleep especially when there are lots of other people staying there, even though they are comfortable and clean.

That said, the dinners we have eaten there have been very good and the hotel staff sets up some food for the very early risers to grab a quick breakfast before heading off to stalk the steelhead.

Room Tip: Avoid booking Rooms 3 or 4 because the noise from other guests will keep you awake or wake you up everytime someone walks by.

While I have eaten lunch here, we've never stayed until we attended a wedding last weekend. We stayed 2 nights in the Sportsman's room which had a roomy private balcony overlooking the river. Dinner was awesome! If you like steak, you will never forgive yourself if you don't order it. Relaxing afterwards around the fire pit was really special. The staff went all out to assure a very memorable wedding reception - - truly magical! The only warning I have for guests is to be prepared for up to 3 trains on the other side of the river each night. Of course if you're there for the scenery and history, you'll know that the Deschutes Railroad Wars are a big part of the history!

Room Tip: Face the river but book early for summer season!

This hotel offers up all the comforts needed for a family vacation or rafting trip.
The rooms are very comfortable, the grounds are well kept, the bar and restaurant are good and the we had a great rafting guide named Larry, much better than the man we had last summer.
The patio outside the bar is a nice spot to unwind after rafting. Good mix of people here too.

If you ever want to get away from it all, Maupin, Oregon is the place to go and the Imperial River Co (Imperial Lodge) is the place to stay. The owners truly care about their guests and are just fun to be around. The staff makes you feel at home and part of a family. This is a place you want to go to get away from all of the daily stress in your lives. If that's what you're looking for, then the Imperial River Company in Maupin, Oregon is the place to stay (no TVs, no phones, no stress; but for those of you who begin to crave technology, they do have WiFi for your computers, tablets, or smart phones). They're right along the river, you have high desert scenery, and just a short distance away you can hike on Mt Hood. River Rafting, Hiking, Bicycling, Fishing, and so much more. Thank you Ron and Susie for another great time, we'll see you again next year.

Room Tip: You can't go wrong with the bunkhouse (not a river view, but a nice size room).

The Imperial Inn is the best kept secret in Oregon. It is my go to hotel anytime I'm passing through Maupin or wanting to spend a few days fishing on the Deschutes River. Excellent acommodations, friendly staff, great restaurant and bar...and the outside fire pit is an outstanding relaxing treat after a long day and a great meal. Can't wait for my next visit!

Room Tip: A room with a view of the river is the way to go...
