I stay at the Imperial several times a year including an annual spring group fly fishing trip. I just got home yesterday and we had some freakishly wet weather. Because Maupin is essentially in the desert, extended periods of rain are very rare. But still, the native redsides were feeding and the Imerial delivered again. Rob and Susie seem to know what guests need. The food was great, rooms are still failrly new (from the remodel 8(?) years ago) and very clean, and the evening atmosphere is always relaxing, sitting by the gas fire pit sharing stories with the rafters and other fly fishers with the Deschutes river in view. This river and this town is truly a very special place. I've been coming here for 30 years with friends or alone for a littie zen-like R & R.

Room Tip: The only room with a TV is the Imperial Suite I believe. Bring a book, or some stories plus a thrist for a pint and you won't miss a TV.

Usually we camp along the Deschutes River, but decided to splurge on a night at the Lodge. What a nice, quaint place to relax while my husband fishes downriver!

The clientele seems to be older, family oriened and all were respectful and well behaved. Dogs are allowed, so that added to the family feel of the Lodge. The rooms are "rustic themed", but you have what you need: comfy beds, cute decor, a refrigerator, coffee maker, hair dryer, free wifi. And, BONUS: No televisions! Yay! Since the wifi access was excellent, there was a way to stay in touch, watch a movie or get a news/entertainment fix.

Most rooms have a small patio where one can enjoy the view from a comfortable adirondack chair. There is also a communal fire pit for evening chats, which was well used last night. There are swinging benches scattered about the grounds, and plenty of places to find privacy, peace and quiet with a good book. There is a small bar, and you can also enjoy beverages on the patio. The restaurant looked quite popular yesterday, but I have not tried it yet. People seemed to be enjoying it, and seriously....the setting alone and the view from the outdoor dining area would make me a happy customer. I hope to enjoy lunch there today!

There is a continental breakfast with bagels, pastries, cereal, waffles, yogurt, tea and coffee. My only suggestion would be that they include more fruit.

Maupin is a tiny town, and is centered around fly fishing, rafting and outdoor activities. If you seek a weekend away from the city, want sunnier skies that you get in Western Oregon, check out the Imperial River Company Lodge. They also coordinate activities of rafting, etc, so you have it all. So far, it has been a very nice stay! Sorry I have to leave today.

One note: Although this is no fault of the hotel, the trains across the river do run at night. They are loud, but do not detract from the stay. Just expect to hear them, and it's no big deal. Commerce has to happen somehow in Oregon!

Room Tip: Choose a second floor room so you can avoid people on the floor above you who don't know how to walk in their room using "their indoor feet". Some people just can't remember that their clomping might not be appreciated by the guests below them.

We come to stay a couple times a year to escape the clouds and rain on the west side and always have a great time.

Our 5 and 8 year old boys had a particularly great time making friends with other kids and playing soccer and tag, catching salmon flies and running around under the shady trees for hours on the lush green lawn until after sunset when the firepit is lit.

The food is great and the restaurant staff is patient and awesome with kids, too. Rooms are very well appointed, clean and comfortable - try to get one with a view deck facing the river.

The Imperial is one of Central Oregon's gems and is the perfect place to relax after hunting or fishing adventures or just to chill out and enjoy the warm, dry air on the banks of the beautiful Deschutes with friends and family.

Room Tip: Worth it to get a room with a river view deck or porch if you are spending much of the day on the property.

We just dropped in without reservations and were able to get the last room. It has a nice view of the river and a shared deck/exterior hallway. The other people in the hotel that night were quiet, so we did not have the problem of partying all night, but the trains definitely woke us up! It was a nice experience, but I felt it was very much over priced for what was a motel-type room--no jetted tub, just a room with a bath.

I was told there was WiFi, but when I tried to log on, nothing. I asked and was given a nonchalant answer about it not working lately...

It was OK for a one time experience.
