Place was clean, bed was comfortable, food was good. Wife liked it. Manager lady took care of us and the breakfast was there as ordered. Quiet place as advertised.

We would go back.

Room Tip: We had the Hiroshige. No complaints.

Very comfortable place and lots of sunshine. Had the Zen Room, seems like the other one is always taken! Apple crepes the day we were there; very good, some delicious spice in them. Came with eggs and bacon. Bed is a queen, nice firm mattress; good place to watch TV from. Generous size screen they have there. Had a peaceful sleep that night. Went for a long walk on the beach when we arrived as you cannot check in until four. A wonderful beach to walk on. Pick low tide if you can; a bit crowded and soft sand the next morning when the water was up. Walk the first day was great, ocean was way out, everything very pale blue, both wet sand and sky, all like one! Memorable.

Altogether I would say this is a winner; we liked it. Would go back in a heartbeat and stay longer!

Room Tip: Zen is OK. No complaints. But we will try for the other one next time; looks like a palace!

Dear Walkingslowly,

What a lovely review; thank you so much for writing it for us.

Yes, the pale blue days of December are quite extraordinary; the winter months can surprise you when the wind is quiet and the ocean is silvery.

We are very glad you liked it here and we hope you can return before too long.

Very nice clean place, gorgeous beach, wonderful weather every day we were there. We walked each day around noon. It was low tide with blue sky and blue silky sand and we just melted in it. We never saw a cloud. Lots of bright stars each night. You can have breakfast up till ten o clock. There was plenty of food. Eggs on fresh garlic toast was quite strong but we both liked that one and very sweet grapefruit half each day. The sun shone in our bedroom in the after noons, The Hiroshige Room. Super comfortable bed! I think it is a very nice place. December is a good time to go there as there are very few other people on the beach. Hope we get back there some time!

Room Tip: Hiroshige is a steal; so much space for the price. The Zen looks good value also though.

I had a very disappointing experience. I made a reservation at the Zen Garden, which was just one of the places we were going to stay on a two week coastal vacation. I was asked to send a check and was surprised to get an e-mail asking where the check was when it didn't arrive two days later. The check arrived the next day and we were sent a long list of do's and don'ts (we are pilots who fly our plane on vacation, and because this stop was in the middle of our trip we just needed an option in case of bad weather). But the bigger surprise is when I e-mailed the Zen just to inquire if I could change the date of my reservation if needed. I didn't ask for a date change, just an inquiry if I could. I got a curt e-mail back telling me my reservation was cancelled and my check would be returned the next day. That was quit a shocker! We stayed somewhere else, which was within walking distance from the main street in Manzanita, a much better place, which is not the case with the Zen Garden. We did drive down to the edge of town to see what we had missed by not staying at the Zen, The place is pretty sad looking compared to where we did stay. I would venture to stay, if you are middle class like us you don't want to stay there.

Recommend this nice, comfy & casual spot along the Oregon Coast - a part of the country well worth visiting if you haven't yet been. Enjoyed a quiet, relaxing few days @ZGB*B this past summer. You can choose your own breakfast combo here, a nice touch. There is also an opportunity to soak in an outdoor hot tub (we didn't opt for this), for an additional fee. Make sure you visit the cheese/ice cream factory - Tillamook - south of the B*B, along the coast.

Dear pieceomymind11,

Thank you for your review. We are very happy that you had an enjoyable time here and that you liked the breakfast.

We are also glad you enjoyed the Tillamook Cheese Factory. It is a very interesting place if you have never seen cheese being made, apart from the delicious ice cream selection!

We will be happy to welcome you here again should you need accommodation for another trip.

With all best wishes for the coming Holiday Season,

Mrs. Smigel.

The Zen Garden Bed and Breakfast is located at the southern extreme of Manzanita, bordered by the ocean, dunes, and forest. We have stayed a number of times in the Hiroshiga Suite, a generously proportioned bedroom/bathroom/living room combination that is spacious, comfortable, and a bibliophile's paradise. Breakfast is served either in the living room or in a delightful garden tastefully designed to induce tranquility and restfulness. In the evenings there is the option of taking a bath in a covered area of the garden. The proprietors are a welcoming yet unobtrusive couple from Europe. Over many stays in the last four years they have been extremely gracious hosts to us. The location offers the benefits of quick access to the ocean, with the center of Manzanita a fifteen-minute beach walk away. Highly recommended for couples and families looking for a relaxing base from which to explore the Oregon coast.

Room Tip: The Hiroshiga Suite is certainly the option to aim for. It's spacious and comfortable.

Great sleep, good breakfast, cool beach, everyone liked it. Grandma and Grandpa had the Zen Room. Grandpa couldn't hear the water pipes and Grandma said they were only for a few minutes. Value is there. Huge big living room with the Hiroshige suite. NO cable TV otherwise perfect place. We will be back.
