Wow! It was a long wait for this huge project, taken on with love and ambition by local people and destined to use locally raised meats and organic produce. When you enter the place you feel transported to a much larger city, one with actual, healthy food choices. The old timers who preferred Bisquick pancakes on Sundays and Velveeta cheese on their Wednesday tacos may have trouble adapting. My first meal was a winner: a sandwich of pickled beets on home-made ricotta with nettle pesto. The hamburgers are terrific, too!
My only fault to find is that it is a large space with high ceilings, and when a crowd is there it's very loud.

Our first impression of the re-opened LT far exceeded our expectations. The atmosphere has a cool modern flare to the LT's rural and casual roots. Our sandwiches and fresh salads were absolutely superb. Our kids loved the drawing nook. It's evident from the focus on local ingredients that these folks obviously take as much pride in their community as they do the experience they've created for their customers. We are so excited to go back!

We understand that the Lostine Tavern has been a staple in this tiny corner of Northeast Oregon for over 60 years.

New owners came to town with the goal of putting the tavern back on track and spruce it up a bit. The menu has familiar comfort food items such as Chicken Pot Pie, Over-easy egg sandwich, grilled cheese with caramelized onions.

Rustic looking bar and newly rustic floors and ceilings complete the look, but the food was the real treat. We had the Ranchers Choice Burger (an ever-changing entree depending on the rancher who came up with the concoction) with homemade Potato Salad (with a hint of lemon tones served over a bed of fresh and tender greens).

The burger was cooked to New York Chef medium-perfection and came dressed with sharp cheddar cheese and crisp hand-trimed bacon.

To drink, I ordered a seasonly and local made rhubarb soda. Out-total-standing compliment to our meal.

Don't drive by, stop in and enjoy a great meal.
