“Great place to stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2007

My husband, 10 yo grandson and I stayed 2 nights at the Sandcastle in mid-August at the end of a 2 week trip through Oregon. The place is an older motel, but very clean and office staff very friendly and helpful. The building is right on the beach and all rooms have an ocean view, some with balconies. We kept windows open all the time and the sound of the waves was great to fall asleep to. We had a small, but complete kitchen, dining area, living area with queen bed and two recliners, and a separate bedroom with queen bed. Very nice indoor heated pool that overlooked the beach stocked with plenty of towels. Only two problems with the facility: no elevator and we were on the third floor (one of the male employees helped with our luggage) and you have to go outside to the pool building. These were minor things though. No breakfast, but we bought juice and donuts. Beach is beautiful and a great place to fly kites. Overall it was a great place to stay and we were wishing we had arranged to stay there longer.

My son [2yrs] and I stayed at the Sandcastle from Aug. 21 - 23. The rooms are a little outdated but clean and the bathroom did not come with a bathtub [difficult to wash a toddler in a shower] but for the rate of $75 a night I am not complaining. The Motel is right no the beach and the noise control was fairly low. There was a spot light above my room but you could not tell it was on when you closed the curtains. The room was extremely warm but leaving the balcony door open eliminated this problem. The pool was great but the hot tub could of been hotter. The only big complaint I have is the cigarette smoking. Being a non smoker, I cannot stand cigarette smoking and when asked for a non smoking room I didn't expect to be surrounded by cigarette smokers. I would be awoken first thing in the morning by cigarette smoke and the smell does not leave your room. I asked the front desk not once, not twice but three times and nothing happened. I was very disappointed about this and will never be returning to this motel because of the cigarette smoking on the balconys.

The Sandcastle Motel has to be one of the best kept secrets in Lincoln City (at least for now). This is a simple, no frills hotel located on the south end of town. The hotel is literally "on the beach: - 6 simple steps out of the hotel and on to the sand.

The rooms are very clean, but not a lot of amenities. But, with rates around $75 per night, you know not to expect much.

We stayed in a one bedroom kitchenette on the 3rd floor with a "pricesless" view of the beach and ocean. The living room had a queen bed in it for the kids and two recliners - great for the afternoon nap. Kitchen is stocked with plates, glasses, silverware, pans, etc.

The property has an indoor pool and hot tub that we did not use. They do not have a guest laundry, one amenity that would be nice.

The staff is friendly and will help you out with things to do, eat and see.

You can't beat this property for the price.

We were initially introduced to the Sandcastle last summer by the in-laws who stay there all the time while visiting the Oregon Coast. Not a fancy place, but very comfortable, with great views of the beach and ocean. And best of all, the price is just right. We paid $69 a night, and stayed for two nights. The motel has an indoor pool and spa which we enjoyed while there. The office has lots of information on things to do in the area (which we had already been aware of), as well as a bookcase full of books for guests to enjoy. A nice touch! We will definitely consider the Sandcastle for our next trip to Lincoln City!

Have been staying at the Sand Castle for about
15 years. We stay in late spring and late fall.
Good friends with owners, Roberta and Gary .
Quiet, clean, well furnished rooms, with a terrific
view of the ocean. Very accomodating to our needs.,
Have referred many other couples through years.
Have a favorite room to request each time we call.
Always have felt secure and right at home. The
rates are terrific for the location of the motel.
Keep up the good work and we will be seeing
you in the fall.

Unfortunately, this place is becoming one of the better known secrets of Lincoln City. Sitting back from the road, it is not a very noticable motel. However, its proximity to the beach couldn't be better.

Located south of the city center, the beach is almost always light on people, since most tend to gather at the beach access closer to town. However, if you stay here, you're really not very far from town, and only a mile or so from the outlet mall if that is one of your destinations.

Lincoln city is a fairly long, drawn out city and this motel sits toward the south end. But both ends of the city have restaurants, markets, gas stations, liquor stores, etc.

Highly recommended for this motel is the kitchen units with a wall of windows to view the ocean (no balconies on the kitchen units). The motel is mostly split with balcony units on one side and the kitchen units on the other. Best value for these kitchen units is during the off season (winter - approx. $62 mid week). But there really is no off season on the beach and nice, stormy weather can sometimes enhance your visit. Staying at this motel will afford you a front row seat to a good old Oregon coast winter storm.

The kitchen units also tend to be very quiet. I've stayed in both these and the balcony units. But I've never heard anyone in the other rooms when staying in the kitchen units. One problem with the balcony units that I've found is that since it is a non-smoking motel, people will stand on the balcony to smoke. If you like to have your sliding glass door open at night to hear the ocean, you'll probably get cigarette smoke filtering into your room.

This is the only place we stay when coming to Lincoln City and we've stayed here numerous times. This is most likely one of the best, if not the best, values in town.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. There are only a couple of places on the coast I can afford to stay, and this is one of them. It is very clean. The rooms are not huge, but they are comfortable. The one thing that I think sets this place apart from the rest is its location. Lincoln city has become quite a tourist town which is okay, but things can get hectic and crowded. This motel is located a little north of the main town area, and is refreshingly quiet. For the real Oregon coast experience I would stay here. If the casino is your thing though they do have a shuttle.
