“Spectacular view!”
Reviewed May 31, 2006

The hotel has a very quaint, small town feel. This is a welcome change from staying in San Francisco. The hotel staff is very warm and personable. The views from the room were absolutely amazing. We were upgraded to a fully furnished suite with a full kitchen, den, dining area, and master suite that was unreal. It was bigger than our first apartment! If you are planning for a long stay with great beach access, consider an upgraded room. It's worth it! The surrounding area has lots of shops and good places to eat (be sure to check out the Wildflower). The entire hotel was very clean and fresh looking. The decor was a slight bit dated.

We stayed at this lovely hotel for two nights in September, 2005. Our room was large with comfortable beds, a small kitchen, and a huge deck with a sweeping view of the coast and ocean. The decor of our room had a pleasing nautical theme. The place was spotless, and the staff was professional and helpful.

The food in the dining room was average, the atmosphere was dull, and the service was neglectful. We enjoyed much more a meal we ate at Kyllo's Seafood and Grill.

We are regular visitors to the Inn at Spanish Head and have had several opportunities to experience its plusses and minuses. It is unlike other oceanfront resorts in several ways, mainly because it is smack-dab planted on the beach and bolted into a rock cliff: it makes a striking profile viewed from the beach. But better still is the unparalleled up-close views from the rooms: dramatic and beautiful.

When you approach the Inn, you are at the top of a 100-ft cliff at the beach, and when you drive in you get a super view of the Inn's red tile roof overlooking the surrounding ocean -- it really is beathtaking.

Beach access beats any other ocean-side facility we have stayed in. You walk out the building and you are on the beach.

As regular guests we have noted some of the same issues pointed out in previous reviews such as shortcomings in congeniality with some of the front desk staff. We agree with the reviewer who remarked about lack of eye contact. On our trip this week, the clerks seemed more attentive and friendly.

Reviewers have noted with alarm their discovery that the rooms are privately-owned condos run as a hotel. We feel this is definitely a positive. In our experience the units have a personal touch, not plain-looking, are inviting, have a better feel, and are more relaxing. The large hotel staff does a good job at making our stay a good one. The housekeeping is very thorough in our opinion, and have always been nice. The bellmen and courtesy drivers are also attentive and friendly.

Many have commented about the Fathoms restaurant. It is a bit on the higher-end of cost (maybe $15-20 for dinner entrees). But we like the overall value when you factor the fine quality and taste, good service (always has been friendly for us), and super view.

Regarding value: some reviewers have mentioned that the Inn is overpriced. There are a variety of rooms and suites, spanning the 10-floor facility. We recomend you don't hesitate to request seeing another room if you think what you have won't meet your needs. As to price, it is definitely on the high-end for Lincoln City. But we return because we see it as an overall good value.

In our view the Inn is a first-rate relaxation and get away resort. What we mean is that when you get there and settle down, you are set. It is just a great, peaceful setting without compare. In fact, you don't have the usual distractions: loud TV, or neighbor noises, etc. due to the 8-inch thick walls! Finally, being literally oceanfront, it is so soothing to wake up with the ocean greeting you, see unobstructed sunsets, and go to sleep with the ocean sounds. Storms are amazing too!

Of all the places in Lincoln City and Newport the restaurant at the Inn at Spanish Head is by far our favorite. There is no other restaurant view that even comes close to this place. It sits atop the Inn at Spanish Head so you are 10 stories above the beach with views up and down the whole coast line. When we were here in March for lunch we spotted a pod of whales playing just a few yards off the shore line. The host even let us borrow a pair of binolculars to watch tehm up close. I can't think of another restaurant on the coast where the food and service are as good as the view. This is a "one of a kind" location!

My wife and I have stayed in room 621 twice in the last year, and both times we have had a wonderful time.

I'll do complaints first... The only complaint that I have is with some (2 or 3) of the front desk and Fathoms staff. One of the hosts (not waitress) in the restaurant was consistently terse and condescending, she seemed to just not like us because we were young, or perhaps she was just having bad day(s).
Lastly, upstairs, it seemed like each desk attendant we spoke with was cold and again terse. Any attempts to be friendly were met with formulaic responses
(ex: "How may I help you?" "Hi, how are you" "Fine. How may I help you" followed by no eye-contact).
Now, I know they are busy, but it struck me that eye-contact and a smile would not take extra time...

The room is always kept up very well, the custodial service is always present and responsive to any needs (they are friendly too). We have not had a problem spending whole days inside the inn. The view is beautiful, the beds comfortable, and oceanfront balcony a great place to peacefully pass time.

The in Inn restaurant, Fathoms, is also a real treat. The food is fantastic, and during the "Early Bird" time (4-5:30PM) better deals are hard to find. Additionally, the bar and appetizers (9-close) are WONDERFUL (1.95 for great chicken strips!).

Overall, I would recommend the Inn for nice oceanfront, romantic, getaways!

This was our second stay at Spanish Head. We thought our first trip was great but this last one was fantastic. If you ever can make reservations far enough in advance ask for room 337. It was a beautiful suite and was decorated like a spanish hacienda. The service was excellent no matter where we were being served. The restaurant (Fathoms) was awesome and I know we will definitley go back. These pictures were taken on the beach just below our room.

My wife and I spent our wedding anniversary at the Inn. We booked an anniversary package for the weekend. It included a breakfast and dinner at Fathoms, the excellent restaurant on the 10th floor. We also received a rose and bottle of wine in our room when we arrived. After we booked the room, I visited this website and read some of the reviews. Since all of the rooms are different I called and requested a nice room that had been updated. Let me tell you, we were thrilled when we walked into room 337. Updated in 2002, with a fireplace and whirlpool tub, the one bedroom suite was done in a spanish theme. It was gorgeous. The view was fantastic from our oceanfront balcony. My wife saw a whale one morning from our bedroom window. She was so excited. It is easy to get to the beach, just hop on the elevator and go down to floor 1. There are some neat tide pools at low tide just outside the hotel. When you decide to go to the Inn at Spanish Head make sure and request a nice updated room and you should enjoy your stay. All of the staff was polite and helpful with us. The valet service was nice and easy. We didn't use the room service, but Fathoms is a top notch restaurant. We had their champagne brunch on Sunday and it was outstanding. The rack of lamb is great too. I will be returning to the Inn again in the future. It was a very special place.

Lincoln City is a very neat community. There are all kinds of eating establishments, antique malls, gift shops, and tourist attractions. See the lighthouse at Yaquina head. It is worth the $5 gate charge. We had a great weekend in Lincoln City at the Inn at Spanish Head. Don't belive everything you read in the other reviews. This place is nice, you just have to ask for an updated room, 337 if you can get it.
