The service provided at this coastal hotel is outstanding. There is a complementary wine tasting in the lobby most evenings at 5. Your breakfast, ordered the night before, will be delivered to your room at a time you choose. The rooms are clean and well appointed. The staff is friendly and helpful. You can bring your dog under 30 pounds, and they are set up to accommodate pets both inside and out.

We have stayed there twice, and each time it was a pleasant experience. We think of it now as our place at the beach. Highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Check for weekday or off season specials. Groupon specials as well. While not quite on the beach...

Yet another great stay at the Shearwater. This was our second time as we absolutely loved it the first time! The rooms are always very comfortable and inviting. The reason that this hotel is great is because there aren't a lot of rooms, so it is very quite and relaxing. There is always a wine social in the evening, and breakfast is delivered to your room in the morning.. basically like a bed and breakfast. The views are phenomenal from all rooms. The only downfall to our stay was that the folks right next to us, kept smoking on their balcony and so we could not enjoy it as much and it kept coming into our room which lead to the doors always being closed. Of course at that point, it was too late as the desk was closed to say something, but did report it the next morning. Other than that, we REALLY enjoyed our stay!

Room Tip: go for the Deluxe King Studios!

So clean and welcoming, views from our room were lovely. They provided everything for our little Nani (Chihuahua) that she needed. I kinda wish they had air conditioning though but we loved everything else. The breakfast was a perfect ending!

We had the Grand King Suite on the top floor. It was a beautiful suite of rooms. My husband and I enjoyed having plenty of separation between our King room and our children in the other King room.

The breakfast was simple but good. Nice options to choose from and delivered directly to the room each morning. All four of us looked forward to the delicious treats coming our way.

The master bathroom was luxurious but oddly had nowhere to hang a hand towel or bath towel. When we talked to the Management about that little niggle we were told they were in the process of adding such things and we got the impression they cared about our opinion and would do something about it as soon as they could.

The TV/DVD equipment was pretty poor quality, we had to resort to watching our DVDs on my laptop. Some HDMI cables would go a long way to improving the experience.

There were four of us in the suite but only three stools to eat at the counter. One more stool and some kind of games table would be nice. The hotel is clean, well-maintained and welcoming. The decor is pleasing, the layout of the suite is great, the kitchen amenities were great and the staff were lovely. Overall I would recommend it.

Room Tip: Best views are on the top floor (5)

We stayed here on a Saturday and Sunday night so our experiences were a little different and gives some idea what spending a week would be like. There is wine tasting every evening with a little snack and breakfast is served in your room at a time you request and is quite nice. On Monday we were given a morning paper with our breakfast - nice touch. The room was lovely with a gas fireplace and a sliding glass door opening to a small balcony with a view of the ocean. The view is a bit obscured by the motel in front but we enjoy the sounds of the ocean and that is not obscured. Parking is very snug so if you have an over-sized vehicle I suggest you park on the street in front of the hotel. IF YOU ARE WANTING TO BRING YOUR DOG, THIS IS THE PLACE TO STAY!! We were worried at first because there was a dog barking as we walked down the hall to our room but we heard no other people or dog noises once we were in the room. Very quiet and calming get away. I think that if you stayed for the weekdays it would really be a relaxing vacation. Everything on the coast is quieter on the weekdays.

Room Tip: Higher floors may have better view. All rooms have an ocean view. Ice machine is on the second floo...

Completely misjudged my drive time from Eureka and I arrived at the Shearwater 3 minutes before the night attendant was about to leave.
My booking had been confused, he sorted it with great good humour and speed, upgraded me and I had a wonderful night in an impressive room and I woke to a stunning view of the Pacific and as good a room service breakfast as I have had for a long time.
My only complaint was that I had to move on and could only spend one night in a hotel which I would have no hesitation in advising anyone travelling in this area to try.
