I had the local IPA, and we ordered the first pizza listed in the pizza section of the menu -- Zambini pizza but we ordered it with the pesto sauce base. It came LOADED with everything! It was quite possibly the best pizza that I have ever eaten... the crust was DEE--Licious!

Great beers and good pub grub. They were out of a couple of their beers but we enjoyed what we had. We had good service even with only one server doing the inside and out side. I would go back.

The beautiful Grande Ronde Valley is located in the Blue Mountains of north eastern Oregon. It is the home of La Grande, a thriving and historic town of about 12 thousand, and in the middle of downtown is the Mt. Emily Ale House. It is located in an old former bank building, and has the original facade and tall brass doors. Everything is great....until you enter the doors of the Ale House. It is kind to say that the interior has none of the charm of the venerable bank building, but instead has no ambience whatsoever. is simply filled with random tables in two distinct areas, and only one area can be seen from the bar. During our lunch time visit, the tables were mostly full, but I noticed that very few were being served. We found a table and ten minutes later a young man arrived to take our order. He advised us that he was the only waiter that day, and was taking and delivering food and drink orders. He was sweating, and the reason was because he was literally running through the tables. He was also the bartender! A one man show...not to exclude the fellow acting as chef.
Our pizza arrived 20 minutes later, but was burned. The beer, made there at the Ale House, was barely cold. We were disappointed to say the least. Still....the Ale House is the only facility like it in downtown La Grande, and that alone will keep the doors open. We might give the Ale House another try on future visits, but I think we will wait until they sort out their problems. Come on Ale House, do it right!

It's not the most expensive restaurant in town but it is one of the nicer ones. Prices are (I think) $8-12 a plate. Me and a friend both got burgers and their homemade root beer (the rootbeer has a black licorice taste. just a tip.) and the bill came to about $40 for both. It opens late, around 4, which is a downside but it's always good and if you're old enough you can try their home brews of ale!

Nice use of an old bank building in downtown La Grande. One waitress doing everything-it was a little too much for her. Manzilla pizza very good, as well as a build your own chicken garlic with pesto. Hubby says burger was very good and it came with a generous side salad. I would eat here again if it wasn't too busy.
