“Sunriver in Klamath Falls”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2011

We were an extended family of 5 who traveled here for a vacation in August 2011. We use the Y as a base for sight seeing to Crater Lake etc. We rented a chalet. The Chalet was very well appointed, great furnishings, clean and offered a lot of space for kids and adults.
At the time of our visit the resort had just recently eliminated many amenities and activity options for guest--they canceled adventure outings and horseback riding, we were told by the front desk this was the new owners decision. Sadly, without the activities that had been advertised to us when we booked--their was not as many things to do for our kids. The pool is very dated and indoor--and the game areas are small and crowded. The new ownership seems to be doing some renovations at the resort and that may revive the resort. This is not a resort that will be memorable to our family

Room Tip: Chalets are away from the main lodge but offer a great option!

HorseDiva -

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us and we are glad you enjoyed your Chalet. I am dissapointed that you received incorrect information about the many activities available for our guests. Some activities, including horseback riding, are offered off-site and operated by a third-party partner. This service was not part of the sale to us nor was the discontinuation of this service something we desired. We would love for an interesed business to re-establish this service for the Resort. The overwhelming majority of our outdoor activiy options remain available for our guests to enjoy.

We are very excited about the renovation underway. Our rooms and suites have been completed and have received new paint, carpeting, furniture, fixtures and more. There will also be a new bistro in the lobby serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and will have a full service bar. The bistro is scheduled to open in November.

We would welcome the opportunity to have you as our guest in the very near future. I am confident we will exceed your expectations.

We recently stayed at the Running Y and had a great time! We live in the desert and so we loved having all the beautiful trees, hills, lake, and deer around. We stayed in one of the townhouses. The townhouses were nice and quiet and have full kitchens, which is perfect for traveling with a family. We loved being able to watch the deer roam the field right off of the back porch each morning and evening. The kids enjoyed swimming, playing tennis, basketball, bocce ball and shooting pool at the activity center while I enjoyed the cappuccinos from the coffee shop. The resort is near three places we wanted to visit while in Oregon so it worked out well - Crater Lake, Lava Beds National Park and Ashland.

We have stayed at Running Y's Lodge before, but recently stayed with friends at one of Running Y's chalet condos. There were two master suites, one with a king, and one queen. The chalet itself was lovely, clean, functional, and came with a great kitchen. The village at Running Y is small, but had a market, restaurant, and liquor store, as well as recreational stores. The guys golfed, and the girls went to the nearby casino. This is a perfect place to visit for a long weekend, or more! The lodge was undergoing remodeling (again) so not sure how that will come out, but I'm guessing it will be lovely, too.

Room Tip: This is definitely a destination resort.

We are very dissapointed that you did not enjoy your stay with us. The abundance of unspoiled, protected lands surrounding The Resort is home to a wealth of wildlife. While we take as many preventive measures as possible to control the periodic mesquito and midge episodes, mother-nature can prove to be a worthy adversary. Their season is short and I believe to be concluded at this time.

We would welcome the opportunity to have you as our guest in the very near future. I am confident we will exceed your expectations.

We arrived to find that our room was not yet available at check in time. The staff is young and not trained appropriately. We get to our room and were not impressed. No shower curtain, mirror smeared, wrinkled bed linens and no comforter on the bed, and smell of paint fumes... fridge was missing too. The website advertisement of the room description does not reflect actual rooms and ammenities. Website does not notify us of remodeling and also when I called to check reservations, we were not notified of the remodel.
No bike racks available for locking up bikes anywhere on the resort grounds. Most buildings were vacant and we were not impressed with the restaurant. Had to drive into Klamath Falls for a nice anniversary dinner. I do not recommend this to family and friends. If another opportunity arises to go there, I would not want to.

The Running Y seems to want to be an upscale destination resort like Black Butte Ranch or Sunriver. If so, the Y has a long ways to go.

On the up side, the Y is in a pretty location. The employees were friendly. The room was clean. The room came with a $5 coupon for breakfast at a nearby restaurant, which was good.

On the down side:

For Klamath Falls, the rooms are expensive; ours was $129 without tax. Despite the cost, the room came with threadbare towels and plastic-wrapped plastic cups--attributes one expects in economy lodging, not a place that bills itself as a "resort." The air conditioner was so noisy, we turned it off. For reasons not explained, we were given a room that was smaller (and less expensive) than the room we had booked. There don't appear to be any employees other than those who work behind the desk and those who are there don't appear to have received any training in hospitality. For example, we received no information other than directions to our room. Not even an explanation of the breakfast coupon.

And then there's the construction. Like other reviewers, I would have expected the staff notify us of the construction when we booked the room. The construction doesn't ruin the trip, but it's noisy and a bit unsettling to be around all the commotion.

As others have said, this lodge is under construction and I wasn't notified about that before booking. The first room they put me in smelled horribly of cheap paint fumes. The 2nd room had lesser paint fumes, but tolerable. The staff is friendly, but not well trained. During construction, a huge part of the lobby is blocked off, which blocks the view out to the golf course. Rooms should be much cheaper given that I had to wake up a saw outside my window. Golf course is great though.
