“Peek into Eastern Oregon's interesting past”
Reviewed July 10, 2012 via mobile

We took a tour of this museum on our first day in John Day. The cool dark rooms of this old naturopath's shop and general store were a welcome relief from the warm weather. The tour takes you room by room through the actual store and living quarters of Doc hay and his assistant. The building had been closed up since the original inhabitants died, leaving the contents untouched until the late 1960s when it was opened up and catalogued and turned into a museum. You can see original packages of herbs and medicines from China, and you get a good sense of what it was like in the late 1800s - early 1900s. If you are in the John Day area I definitely recommend this 45 minute tour.

“A Visit to the Past”
Reviewed May 31, 2012

In tiny John Day you will find this museum which is located in a building originally occupied i the 1880's. The building has been minimally restored to the way it was then and the inside is very close to the condition it was in back then.

There is an Oregon Park Ranger at the interpretive center who conducts hourly tours of the museum.

Highly recommended for both adults and children. We learned about history of that period (and up to the modern day) which is quite unique.

The museum is free and donations are welcomed.

“This little house ( museum) holds a wonderful history”
Reviewed May 18, 2012

Our guide to the little house was extremely knowledgable, answered all of our questions. The museum is a "must see" if you are in John Day. The information center is great as well, and one can see the Chinese history of by-gone years. We loved it.

“A Slice of Oregon History”
Reviewed October 23, 2011

Moderately interesting history of Chinese culture in central Oregon. Worth a stop if you happen to be in the area and have some extra time, however, it's not worth going out of your way for. There's just not that much to see.
