Oh the Painted Hills are extraordinary. Very easy to access and you can drive all the way and there is a nice walk where you get to see more colors and photo opportunities are just great.

The drive to Painted Hills from Portland, Oregon is a bit of a long one (3.5 hours) but the drive is a beautiful one and totally worth it! We drove through Mount Hood National Park(You can see Mount Hood from anywhere!) as well as through the Native Reserves once you get to the "desert" of Oregon. There are little towns on the way to the Painted Hills you can stop and grab a bite to eat. We stopped at Mount Hood - Government Park for an early dinner on our way back. The Painted Hills are breath taking, beautiful and so peaceful, it's nice to just sit there and take it in and take lots of pictures. The intensity of the colors changes depending on the weather but we were there for several hours and it was very sunny (no snow) and the pictures definitely captured the beauty!! Definitely recommend to dress lightly as it gets hot and bring water if you are going to walk from the different observation points. Definitely an amazing location of the 7 Wonders of Oregon!

The Painted Hills area is spectacular - IF you're there at the right time of day. Sunrise, sunset, or the hour after sunset - this is when the colors are the very best.

Sadly, there are those who think that the rules about walking on the hills/dunes don't apply to them. Their footprints detract from the beauty of this special place.

We really enjoyed the visitor center. Lots of fossils, good explanations, and a chance to see a working lab up close. I would definitely visit again.

One of the most interesting land formations that I have visited. The hills were fabulous and colorful. I am very glad to have stopped and hiked among them. The hikes are as easy as you want them to be. Lots of little hikes around the hills. You can drive your car right up to the hills and see them, which makes it a good visit for handicapped and elderly people. We didn't hike all the way to the top of the first hill but hiked the rest.
