The menu was diverse enough to make everyone happy. The food was surprisingly good and the prices reasonable.

“Good Food, Good service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2011

We are from Australia and were visiting with my penpal who has lived in John Day all her life. The food was good (even though my steak was over cooked, but it wasn't chewy) and the service was good. My husband had the split pea & ham soup and said it was the best he had tasted in a long time.
As always we found the servings were too big so couldn't finish it all. Prices were good. ($13.95 + for a salad, roll, steak, baked potato & creamed vegies).
Would definately eat here again to try some of the others dishes on the menu.

“Good American fare in a typical American small town”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2011

After visiting the intensely interesting Kam Wah Chung museum in John Day we needed some lunch. There are a handfull of restaurants in this small central Oregon town so we chose the one that looked the best. Burgers and salads are the fare here at moderate prices. Everyone was happy with their order. The one member of our party who ordered the burger special of the day was happy. The other three of us ordered salads (three different ones) and we were all happy as well. No trendsetting here, just good quality, predictable fare. That's what we wanted. That's what we got.

“rustic surroundings - nice food -reasonable prices”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2009

Our recent dinner was tasty and we had nice service. The menu offers a wide variety of usual meals and there are also daily specials. Food was prepared well and in a reasonable time; service was accurate and friendly.

I rated it average since it wasn't unusal in atmosphere, meals or value.; there weren't any problems. It offers good value and good quality.
