Driving through on our way from Bend to Baker City we stopped for lunch. The front entrance is not wheelchair accessible so I had to go inside to see if there was another entrance for our daughter. The entrance around the back is a gravel parking area so not the most accessible but the door did not have steps to get inside like the front.

We were seated and given our menus. After several minutes our waitress finally came over to take our order. Our daughter asked for macaroni and cheese which comes with applesauce and milk. The M&Ch did not have enough milk added to it so it was grainy and had a weird taste. The applesauce came in a plastic tub like you'd buy in a 6 pack at the grocery store. I had a cheeseburger and asked for no onion but it came with it anyway. It was an average burger served with average fries. My husband had a chicken sandwich and asked for no ranch sauce but it came with it anyway. It too was average and served with fries. Our daughter's meal was supposed to come with an ice cream cone at the end but no one ever came back over so we just paid our bill and left.

We will never eat there again.

Our lunch was reasonably priced, served reasonably quickly, and yummy. The restaurant itself isn't a formal sort of place. Lots of room between tables for wheelchair access, but do not remember if the front door was accessible.

Our waitress was matter-of-factly friendly and checked on us regularly without being intrusive or overly cheerleader-chipper. She ensured we had what we wanted and that the meal was going okay.

Would eat here again.

This is the place to go if you are hungry. The portions you get, you will be asking for a to go bag. I ate there for breakfast and had the Chicken Fried Steak, with hash-browns, 2 eggs and pancake. Well first of all the food was delicious but I would bet you it was severed on a platter. This could have been for 2 people easy. The pancake, well it was 3 large pancakes. There was no way that I could have eaten even half of this meal, but it sure was good. My friend had the huckleberry pancakes and she said the flavor was amazing. So if you are driving through John Day Oregon, this is a go to place for breakfast for sure. The lady that served us was outstanding.

We have been to the Outpost several times and each time the service, food, prices , atmosphere and staff have been excellent. It has the appearance of a lodge with wood furnishings and a fireplace for the winter. The lounge has a good selection of beer and you can also eat in the lounge. We recommend the Garden Pizza with draft beer!
