My husband and I have stayed here several times over the past 8 years or so and been totally enchanted. The setting - right on the magnificent N Umpqua River is wild and beautiful - esp now in May with the dogwoods blooming on the river banks. We have also loved the fisherman's dinners which have always been so creative and delicious. Unfortunately, our culinary roll ended tonight with a totally pedestrian dinner of green salad, overlooked beef tenderloin, mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach - the same sort of food cooked by housewives in the 1950's. The cocktail hour beforehand in the library was a non-starter as well - shrimp that had spent way too much time in the freezer and lost all its sweetness coupled with apple slices and an Asian peanut dip. And we were told by the staff to not eat all the shrimp so there would still be some left for a late-arriving couple. That was easy to do - but not a very classy request. Everything else here has been up to par, but such a boring bland dinner . This place knows how to do WAY better - what has happened?
