IdleYld Lodge
Reviewed September 19, 2012

We did not stay the night, being guests further up the road at a motel without a restaurant, but the folks at idleyld stayed open late to serve us dinner after a long day on the road. Food was excellent, I had a superb homemade beef stew and my fellow rider had what he said was the best chicken and dumplings he'd ever had. At our invitation, one of the proprietors sat with us over dessert and shared the story of their purchase and takeover of the lodge in July 2012. Their enthusiasm for their business is palpable and we wish them luck. Heading back for what promises to be a great breakfast here in a few jhminutes.

Home base for visiting Crater Lake and the North Umpqua River. Our hosts worked hard to make sure out stay was enjoyable and comfortable. Great meals all day. We made sure we got back to the lodge in time for dinner each night. The new owners have worked hard to make Idleyld a pleasant stay for visitors. There has obviously been a lot of remodeling and they are still in the process of improving the site. We enjoyed sitting on the deck in the evening and there is a comfortable great room for relaxing. If you are looking for 5-star hotel amenities then you should stay in Roseburg but if you want a comfortable, quaint, quiet and relaxing visit on the North Umpqua River then you'll find Idleyld affordable and offering a lot of bang for the buck.

The new owners began operation of IdleYld Lodge in July of this year and are making remarkable improvements. The lodge is still being updated. The owner/operator of the Lodge, Ron Welch, told us his motto was "I am here to serve you." He definitely lived up to his motto. The atmosphere is homey and relaxed, more like a bed and breakfast. The Lodge also has a sense of history and place not found in larger chain operations. The rooms were spacious, clean and quiet. The food was well above average with excellent home-baked goods. Outstanding value for the price.

The owner was excellent host/owner and gave us personal service to make sure that our stay was enjoyable. Older lodge which had been acquired recently and the owner is in process of updating. I agree with previous review. It is a "down home" type lodge. A good place to relax and enjoy a slower paced life.

We spent 3-nights there August 7-10, 2012. We chose to stay here to fly fish for steelhead. Our experience at the lodge was positive--just want we wanted. The owners went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and accommodate our schedule. Each morning we left at 5AM and returned before noon to shower, catch a few zzzzs and eat before leaving for evening fishing until dark. The first night, we enjoyed homemade chicken pot pie dinner and dessert for $7. Breakfast had lots of choices including fresh fruits, muffins, breads and hardboiled eggs. We enjoyed fresh Guatemalan coffee every morning. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming during our stay. Our room was clean, private, quiet, and roomy enough for our luggage and fishing gear. We had a room with a queen bed opening to a small dressing area leading into the bathroom with a shower. The bed was comfortable. We drove into Glide and learned more about the history of the Idleyld Lodge. The lodge has a dance floor and hosted some popular local dances. Apparently, locals drove from miles around to dance to live local music and meet up. We plan to return in a couple of weeks to fish the beautiful Umpqua for that infamous steelhead on a fly. I hope we get the same room. The photos on this review are old. The lodge does not look like the photos anymore. I’m going to post some photos of the lodge now.

Room Tip: Support small business and the local economy. Don't lose history. It's too expensive.

Someone needs to educate this clueless couple . As for myself, I enjoy a clean comfortable atmosphere. This establishment was neither. The room we stayed in reminded me of a very old hospital room. The bare walls were white, the furniture consisted of 2 beds and 2 mis-matched end tables from 1970, that they did'nt bother to clean. The bathtub was dirty, and it was a good thing we brought our own soap and shampoo because the only thing complimentary was the chocolate chip cookie on each bed. The indoor-outdoor carpet was old and obviously had not been cleaned in quite some time. The windows were held shut by a screw, and the white vinyl shades were grey. The lodge was very generic, with nothing more to offer than a place to rest your head, and in all fareness, I must say, that the owners can and do cook up some pretty good food. Was the room worth 80 dollars? NO WAY.

Room Tip: There are 4 rooms to choose from and u ntil they hire a cleaning person, I would not recommend any o...
