“What a value”

We stayed at the Best Western Hood River Inn on a Friday night. We were hoping for a river view room but settled for a walk on the hotels paved path along the river with beautiful river and bridge views . The room was clean, beds were comfortable, the staff was courteous and polite, and we had the 9' deep pool and hot tub all to ourselves! Our room was on ground level, right off a secondary entrance and directly across from the pool, how convenient. Our complimentary breakfast included scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns and sausage cooked to order. At $93.20 including taxes, we felt it was a real bargin. Would highly recommend to others.

We stayed for just one night, April 1st, but would choose this Best Western again. Room decor is very nice--well above average. Most surprising was the quality of the restaurant. We had an excellent, gourmet meal and were very pleased with the menu choices and service. Location of the hotel on the river is a plus.

This hotel was clean. and rooms were large. The furniture layout was kind of strange. But not a big issue. The staff was great, even on Easter Sunday. The restaurant on location was surprisingly good. We did both dinner and breakfast. Both were very good. Breakfast was part of the price. The room overlooked the river and had a balcony. Bed was alright. The location is kinda east of the Columbia River Gorge were we wanted to explore the next day. But not a big issue

I stayed here for one reason and that is the view. This place has the best view of the Colombia River Gorge!

I requested a river view room since again the whole purpose of my stay was the view. My room had a great view. Aside from the view, the room was nice. I had a king sized bed and a nice balcony with 2 chairs and a place for my feet. The whole room looked like it had been remodeled with a newer pillow top bed, granite countertops, and a flat screen TV. The only thing that looks outdated in the room was the carpeting and the shower curtain (Now I am not sure how the other rooms look since I heard some rooms are look outdated). The heat/AC worked great. It took no time to cool the room off or make it warmer. The shower had great, even water pressure. My room had a separate vanity/sink outside the bathroom which is always a plus when traveling w/someone else. The only thing about my room that had issues was the TV. Most stations had some static and the picture wasn't clear, which I honestly didn't care about since I wasn't there to stay in and watch TV.

The location is ideal. They are right on the river. They have a nice pathway along the riverside, and I do suggest strolling the grounds....it is absolutely beautiful!! Hood River in general has many outdoor activities and so this is a great place to stay if you wanted to get out and explore the Gorge. There is a beach less than a mile away as well as a small museum that is worth a visit. The parking at the hotel seemed ok, but I don't know what it is like on their busy season.

You do get a free breakfast in the morning. Upon check in you get a coupon witch is redeemable in their restaurant and you have a few choices to pick from. It is not like a standard free breakfast. You actually go in and sit down and have someone wait on you and the food is made fresh (not buffet style). Also, the restaurant has a great view.

This stay was perfect and visiting here makes me wish I still lived there!

We spent 3 days at the Hood River Inn at $89 per night. Included was a full breakfast with fabulous peppered bacon or apple sausage. The oatmeal with poached pear was fantastic too. We also received coupons for dinner = buy one entree get 2nd half off. The halibut fish and chips was fantastic. We were very surprised at the quality of food from the hotel restaurant!

We were fortunate to get a room with a view of the Columbia River. I would definately recommend a river side room. Not just for the view, but there was absolutely no room noise. We knew we had neighbors because of their room service dishes, but we never heard a peep through the walls. We've stayed in plenty of hotels, new and old, and have always had difficulty sleeping with some sort of hall or neighboring room noise. But this room was almost sound proof. That coupled with very comfy beds, we slept very well.

It looked like the rooms facing the parking lot, on the lower level, might be a bad choice. The parking spaces pulled right up to the sliding glass door and patio of those rooms. My guess, is that you'd get headlights and noise on the parking lot side - just a word of caution. Also, if you need an elevator, the second floor is only accessable by stairs. Their not tall and it was very easy to carry up our luggage and ice chest.

The hotel is on the older side, but clean and well kept. We would definately stay here again without hesitation.

The reason that I gave this hotel a 2 was because of the pet policy, the quality of the food and the state of the east wing of the hotel.
The hotel is in a great location, just on the south side of the Columbia River and Hood River Bridge($.75 toll). When we arrived we noticed that there were 2 sides of the hotel, the west side(newer) and the east side(older...built in 1966).
We were traveling with our small dog so we requested a 1st floor room. They also gave us a "doggie bag" with a couple of dog treats and a pouch of wet food. We were given the east wing :-( When we walked into that part of the hotel the ceiling were so low that you thought that you would hit your head. The walls had wood paneling on them and OLD pictures. Our room was just O.K. The carpet had a couple of stains and the windows were dirty but other than that it was the cleanest room that we had ever been in. The room was quite small with a patio with a table and chairs and a cement bench. We had a view of the Columbia River and a HUGE rock. It was great for the dog. There was also cigarette butts on the ground outside of our room.
The next day we asked to look at one of the west wing rooms just because we were curious and really didn't see any difference....except.... The countertops in the bathrooms were granite as the ones in the east wing were not. Same decor but no stained carpet. Not really a big deal but very evident that the west wind was recently remodeled and the east wing was in dire need of one. It also included a free breakfast every morning of your stay. You have 5 things to choose from.
1.)cold cereal
2.)poached pear with oatmeal and hazlenuts
3.)french toast with scrambled eggs and either ham, apple sauage or peppered bacon
4.)biscuts & gravy with scrambled eggs and either ham, apple sausage or peppered bacon
5.)scrambled eggs with either ham, apple sausage or peppered bacon, hashbrowns and a biscut
NO SUBSTITUTIONS!!!!
Now I know that it is free but I would really like to get ham that is not full of fat and a sausage link that is not dripping with fat. The 1st morning was better the the 2nd morning. The 1st morning my husband got the sausage instead of the bacon that he ordered which he finally did get and it was pretty good. 4 good sized pieces, but the 2nd morning my brother in law ordered the bacon and only got 2 pieces and it tasted and looked totally different. My ham was half the size as the ham the morning before. I don't care for scrambled eggs so I paid $2.95 for 2 over medium eggs(whice were over easy) instead and $2.00 for wheat toast instead of the biscut. That really didn' bother me but the cost of the eggs and toast were a little high. Speaking of prices, the Cebu lounge has a GREAT Happy Hour. Monday-Friday 4P.M.-6P.M. $2.99 appetizers and there must be at least 12 to choose from if not more. Escargo, Egg Roll(1), Calamari, Onion Rings, Burger, Fish Tacos just to name a few but be warned, be careful what you order off of Happy Hour. We ordered the Egg Roll($7.50 for 1 cut in half) and the Onion Rings($5.00 for 6-7) late night and a Caesar Salad which were all just O.K. You can't beat the price during Happy Hour, no drink specials though.
Now here are 2 majors problem that would make us think twice about staying here again......
1.) The dog policy. You can NOT leave your dog unattended in your room at anytime, PERIOD! If your dog was caught unattended the hotel would call Animal Control and they would take your dog. What a joke. I would understand if you had an unruley animal that barked all of the time but that isn' the case. We had to put our dog in our car when we went to the hotels restaurant for breakfast.
2.)The hotel website does not disclose that there is also a $12.00 pet fee per nite plus tax.
So they have the most strict pet policy that I have ever heard of AND they charge you too.........
SO IF YOU ARE TRAVELING WITH A PET BEWARE!!!

Unfortunately, we were not told of this guests displeasure with their room, hotel furnishings, breakfast, or dog policy at any time during their stay. We would have been happy to find them a more suitable room had we known of their displeasure before their departure. For the comfort of other guests, we do ask that guests do not leave their dogs unattended in the room. Our dog policy and pet fee is clearly stated on our Best Western website. In order for us to provide a quality breakfast with quality service to 200+ guests each morning in a short amount of time, we have found that by offering a limited menu, this was the best way to serve our guests and coordinate our wait staff to work most efficiently. We have talked to our kitchen staff and have stressed the importance of consistency of food portions. We are very sorry that they did not enjoy their stay and hope we may have another opportunity to provide our typically outstanding accommodations to them.
