Tom McCall Nature Preserve

Beautiful area, probably great hiking as well. I wished I had brought my wildflower book! It is a historic area with road designed for scenic appeal.

Very pretty easy trail through prairie grasses on the top of a bluff with great views over the Columbia River. There were beautiful wildflowers and a couple tiny lakes hidden behind trees. Despite the fact that it was a cool grey day we did see a Western rattlesnake and lots of poison oak, so be cautious when walking on the trail.

The Tom McCall Reserve is an easy destination, a short drive off I-84. Offering killer views of the Gorge and mouth of the Klickitat River. Hike down to the top of the cliffs or up to the summit for a even bigger view.

Can be very hot and windy. No dogs allowed. Watch out for the Poison Oak!
Rehydrate at the Thirsty Woman Pub in Mosier, afterwards.

Amazing views of the Rowena Crest and Columbia River. Completely different landscape/climate east of Hood River.
