Beautiful Old World Hotel. Great location on bluff overlooking the Columbia River with waterfall and brook on the property.
Dog friendly and well maintained. Staff very attentive.
Did their New Years Eve Mystery Dinner too. Food very good. Mystery was fun.
Only negative was the dinner was to be 5 courses with wine pairing. Turned out one of the courses was an amuse bouche (small sorbet) which isn't usually considered a course. Not a problem. The wine pairing turned out to be 1/2 glass of white wine and 1/2 glass of red. Not exactly a pairing. Felt a little cheated but didn't ruin the evening.

Room Tip: Get one facing the river

We had a nice new years day and night here. The hotel was quiet and the weather sunny but cold. The river view and falls out front were really nice. We would deinitely stay here again. We pricellined it for a great rate. The grounds are wll kept and beautiful.

We had a party of 6 - grandparents, parents and college aged kids - who all enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea on Dec. 22nd at the Columbia Gorge Hotel.

I had called three weeks in advance to make our reservation @ $25 per person, and am so glad that I had as the tea appeared to be sold out. The young man with whom I booked our reservation was new to the hotel and was unable to explain the tea service (told us that it would be a nice "spread" which sounded a bit like a buffet), so we had no idea what to expect and were very pleasantly surprised!

The tea time was set for 2PM to 4PM, and we arrived at 2:05 and were seated at a lovely table on a bank of windows in an area which I would call the sunroom. It was just above the waterfall which was not visible from inside but we enjoyed during a walk behind the hotel before tea. As our party did not know the protocol, we were a bit worried when we had been seated for 20 minutes with no food, tea or service - but then saw a line of staff bringing out beautiful china tea pots to the room next to us. Our tea followed a few minutes later and in 10 more minutes two large three tiered servers of finger sandwiches, scones, cheddar pop overs, desserts and a few fresh fruits were presented to our table.

The tea was black, served with lemon wedges and honey, cream and sugar. Decaf tea (chamomile) was available by request. Although other afternoon teas which we have enjoyed offered several different tea options, this one was fine as the beautiful china pots, cups and delicious food and lovely atmosphere made up for the lack of tea diversity!

The Columbia Gorge Hotel is a "grand dame" of hotels...old, elegant and charming. The restaurant serves delicious food with spectacular views of the river gorge. The hotel was festively decorated with old world charm and holiday decorations. Staff is very friendly. The rooms are cozy and lacking in a few amenities like a coffee maker and microwave but if you really want a cup, complimentary coffee is served in the lobby. The bathrooms have been updated and there is free Wi-Fi. The grounds are immaculate with decks named after celebrity guests like Rudolph Valentino. For old world charm, spectacular views and peaceful relaxation, this is a great stay!

Room Tip: Back rooms have views of the gorge but train noise while the front rooms may be quieter with garden...

This Hotel is truly a class act. From the time I got there I was impress. The grounds were beautiful, the decorations out side and inside were spactacular! What a surprise we we got to our room which was beautifully done. A bottle of special Champagne and a note welcoming with birthday wishes. The evening at the dinning room was absolutly wonderful. The food was five star, if there was a higher ratting I'd give it.
This is a class act, they thought of every thing and made this one of the memorable Birthdays my wife has had in many years. Good Job to the all the Hotel Staff.

Room Tip: You may want to choose the side for the best viewing. Room 339 was our favorite.

My wife and I were making our first trip to the Columbia River Gorge, and wanted to stay in a hotel that best complimented the area. There seemed to be a dearth of "upscale" hotels in the area, with the closest one being on the Washington side, and a bit of a distance away. Despite some negative reviews, we stayed at the historic Columbia Gorge Hotel. The interior of the hotel is well preserved and maintained, the view of the river from our room good, and the grounds are beautiful. The staff is young and eager to please, if not the most experienced. While the hotel image and history naturally exudes "formality", the experience is more "laid back" and "informal", which we enjoyed. The cocktail lounge with the huge fireplace was wonderful, and the bartender enthusiastically shared her excellent knowledge of the local wines. Diner in the restaurant was okay for one of the two nights,, but we sought out alternatives for the second evening. Both breakfasts were fine. We consider this hotel to be the perfect place to stay in the area, and would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the river have nice view, but keep in mind trains pass close to the hotel througho...

My husband surprised me with a trip here. We had the fireplace room overlooking the waterfall and the river. Beautiful. got a massage in there spas, drinks in their bar, and too full for dinner we had a great appetizers in the restaurant. We went during an extreme chill here so maybe not fair but could not get warm and I'm pretty hot blooded. There was snow on the ground and holiday lights all over outside and in. And it truly was enchanting. Blue the power when I blew dry my hair but they quickly fixed. People very friendly and place was clean. Bed was very comfortable and was a huge antique. The bartender spent some time telling us about the haunted tales that evidently go with this place which was built in 1921. I recommend the experience of staying here.
