This hotel has been properly restored to its former grandeur. The gardens and views of the Gorge are lovely. The creek that passes through the gardens makes a lovely waterfall right on the property. It is fun to go up to your room in an operator run elevator...there are so few functional elevators like this still in existence today. The elevator is noisy as it ascends and descends BUT the hotel tries very hard to limit its use late in the evening. To tell the truth, the trains are noisier. Plan ahead...bring earplugs and you will rest well. This hotel is elegant and clean, far above the standard Gorge facilities. There is a slight musty smell as you enter the lobby but most buildings of this vintage have a similar problem.
