The entire gorge is such a delight to drive through. Multnomah Falls is gorgeous & the bridge quite an architectural wonder. You can hike above the falls, but the day we were there it was pouring so it limited our hike. There are many other falls available from the road & also quite lovely. Lush & green with fall colors coming in during the month of October.

Drove the Columbia River from Portland to just east of Hood RIver. It was so beautiful, a lot of stops for views, lookouts, waterfalls, dells, the bridge, power facility, hatchery, ladders, and on and on. See the mountains and do not miss the "fruit loop" especially the Hood River Lavendar farm in the height of the bloom - it is heaven on earth. If you get a chance get across the river and look back onto the city of Hood River. One of my favorite vacations and on of my new favorite places in the US. Read the history and do some research ahead of time to get the most of your time.

Beautiful part of Wash-Oregon. The river itself is rich with history and there are all sorts of museums and roadside attractions to inform you about the formation and development of the gorge.
