This is a great hike to see a very pretty lake at the foot of Mt. Hood . there is another trail once there tom, dick and hairy takes you to the top and you over look the lake and can see Mt. hood and many other mountains from on top. This is a very well traveled hike so start early and bet the rush.

This is a VERY POPULAR hike. The parking area on summer weekends gets very crowded (and dangerous due to HWY 35). Beautiful little hike to the lake. The lake is beyond picturesque. You can take AMAZING photos in the morning before the crowds arrive. Trail is not difficult. You can make it more challenging by going past the lake and hiking to Tom, Dick and Harry mountain. Now that is a moderate hike with AMAZING views.

I read on two different websites that this trail is easy, however, I would definitely consider it moderate. In order to get to the lake it's all switchbacks going uphill; enough to make you sweat a little but when you see the mountain it's totally worth it. You have to get half way around the lake before the mountain is visible so don't get discouraged, you'll eventually be able to see it. The parking where we were along the highway is limited though, so you'll want to get there before the afternoon crowds get there.

It was 45 minutes in and 30 minutes back - you might want to reconsider if you have small children. The water was so very clean - you can drink from the river and swim in it. Beware the wasps! When you get there, Mt. Hood looks awesome.

This is a 1.5 mile (or thereabouts) hike that is very popular because it is worth the effort -- BUT, unlike the impression some of the reviews of this hike gives, it is not an easy hike. I would classify it as moderate. The 1.5 miles to the lake is ALL uphill. The grades are not difficult, but they're not a "stroll in the park" either and when you consider it's all uphill....you need to think about it. Now having said that -- I weigh 350 pounds and made it up. It was stupid to try but did it. Anyone in average shape can make it with no trouble but I would question hiking the trail with small children. The reward at the end of the hike is everything the other reviews state. It's awesome. If you're there about 9:00 a.m. there are very few people on the trail. If you're going to do this on the weekend, I would suggest getting there even earlier.
