I stayed at the Vagabond for a week last March and had a great experience. This time is no different. The staff is friendly and helpfull. the rooms are clean and comfortable...and they have real glass glasses!...The grounds and views of the river are fantastic. I like being right next to town, but not in the bustle of downtown. Things are relaxed here and there are excellent restaurants within a minute walk.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good...you just get a better view the more you pay.

Thanks for your review! One of the nice things about being an independent hotel is we can do whatever we need to keep making our guests' stays more and more enjoyable each time; like having the real glassware for example. Glad to hear, we'll keep working our best. Thanks again!

My wife and I stayed at the Vagabond Lodge for three nights. Our room was very roomy, with two queen beds, along with a nice sized couch; it had a separate desk and table. We had a nice view of the Columbia River, with the lights across in Washington reflecting at night.

We're already talking of visiting there again.

We have stayed in Hood River three times now. Twice we have stayed at the Vagabond, and after our last stay I can promise we will always stay here. The prices are amazing, especially for the amazing view you get.
AMAZING SERVICE - Our last stay was a few weekends ago, and we were trying to get a taxi into downtown to go wine tasting. Its not a far drive but it's a long walk especially in the cold. For some reason we were not able to get a hold of any taxi's!! I have never had this happen before so I went to the front desk to ask if they knew what was going on. The lady at the front desk (who is always super friendly and helpful) tried to get a hold of a taxi and she was having no luck also. At this point another lady came in who I believe was the owner of the hotel. She offered to drive us downtown! We tried giving her gas money and she refused. Seriously, where do you get that kind of hospitality now days?!?
We love to go to Hood River for the weekend and because of the Vagabond's customer service, location, clean rooms, and price we will be staying here every time.

Room Tip: Pay the little extra for the view! Worth it!

Thanks for your review! We always do what we can to help guests enjoy their stay, and yes that was my wife providing the impromptu taxi service. Any other time, if there's a taxi available in town, Kathy (lady at the front desk) will find it for our guests! Thanks again.

We stayed in 2 rooms in what I assume was the older part of the hotel.(21-22)
The structure is an older 60-ish building with the contraints that come with that. Having said that I can offer the following comments.
The room was very clean, had newer fixtures, good paint and bedding for the price.
The grounds were being developed for further river view terrace type area, which will be very nice when complete. The rest of the grounds were kept and offered several viewing and sitting areas. It has been a while since I stayed at a place with an outdoor playground for kids, so that was a nice touch.
The staff was very pleasent and helpful.
I heard very good things about the suites, but there were none available for us.
If you are expecting a modern chain type of hotel, or a 100 yr old historic feel, you will be disappointed.
If you are looking for a Route 66 flavor of travel, this hotel would be perfect for you.
The prices were about 1/2 of what the rest of the area was getting. I felt that the chain hotels in the area were overpriced by quite a bit. This place was a great value for the family traveler.

Thanks much for your review! You are exactly right, the building your were in was completed by my grandparents in '62. We'll keep maintaining and upgrading it as much as we can over time. Most of our other buildings are newer, most recent being completed in 2002, and we will keep upgrading/updating our rooms as we can. We're looking forward to our viewpoints being ready to open for everyone too, and hope everyone will enjoy the new open space we'll have along the cliff. Thanks again!

We arrived a few hours before check-in and we were surprised we were able to get our room. The front desk lady was supper friendly. The lodge looks very "shabby" from the outside but the room (#44) was very quaint and pretty cozy. Not very busy but we did have someone above us.......hense the thin floors and walls. Pam the housecleaner for our room was soooo very friendly asking use if we needed anything everyday (we opted out of daily cleaning service). The grounds we very weathered as it was winter but could have been cleaned up alot more, there were old cars just sitting around that didn't seem to run and a boat & I'm not talking about the ground construction by our room. Anxious to see the end result of the terracing. Internet was great once they reset the router. All of the buildings are very dated on the outside. Room had definatly been updated, new carpet and paint. Beds we good but you sink to the middle. Heater is jst ok......it's either too hot or too cold, didn't seem like it could make up it's mind. Would stay here again especially if we get a Groupon as we did on this trip......

Room Tip: Ask for a LARGE river view room.

Thanks for your review and feedback! We hope you visit to see the viewpoints and grounds along the cliff when they're ready; we're looking forward to opening it up again too. A couple of our buildings do date back to '54 and '62, thus the noted style, and we're going to be updating those things as we can. That vehicle you saw on the property next door does run, as well as the boat being restored in the winter until it can be docked at the marina come spring. We'll check that AC unit and figure out why it didn't want to make up it's mind for you as well. We're glad to hear you enjoyed your stay, and hope you'll be back later on in the spring when the grounds really bloom. Thanks again!
