“Luxurious Suite”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

We had originally booked a river view room, but when we arrived, they offered us the adjoining Villa Suite instead for an additional fee, and we decided to go for it. It was easily the most elegant, spacious, decadent room… er, rooms… that we’ve ever stayed in. The suite has a living room, kitchen (completely outfitted), laundry room, dining room for 8 with a corner view of the river, master bedroom and bath, and an extra half-bath just for the heck of it. The patio, completely private, overlooks the river and has a glass balcony. There are three closets, four if you count the pantry in the kitchen. Heck, the master bath alone needs 5 light switches, and that’s not including the different light settings on the make-up mirror. Plus everything looks brand new and very high end. My only difficulty with the suite was in convincing my husband to leave it each morning to go hiking, because he would have been happy to sit out on the patio all day instead.

For the record, we also got a quick peek at the river view room and it was very elegant as well, just on a smaller scale. But if you ever get a chance to upgrade to a suite, take it!

Dear travelerfromsj,
Thank you for your wonderful review. There is no doubt that our large suites are over-the-top. Many of our guests miss out on these options when they book reservations with an online travel site that may not offer them. Savvy TA readers will find lots of information, pictures and floor plans of all our offerings on our website and our reservation staff is always available to answer questions and coordinate special arrangements. When we have one of these special suites available at check in time, we love to show them off and make them available, especially to multi-night guests who will have time to enjoy all of it. There is never any pressure to upgrade but we are all about creating memorable experiences and return customers. Sounds like you will be one of them and we look forward to your return.
So, the tip to TA travelers here is - don’t hesitate to ask about last-minute upgrade options that might be open when you check in.
Happy travels,
Steve Tessmer, GM

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and were impressed with everything overall. The room was huge and very nice, and the bathroom was simply stunning. The staff were fantastic and assisted us greatly when we had a problem with our rental car. Location wise - it was close to the town of Hood River.

Overall we were delighted with experience and would gladly return.

Our daughter was married in Hood River; our family rented one penthouse and the groom’s family the other. The Villas were extremely luxurious; bedrooms were gorgeous with large bathrooms and the living areas were incredibly spacious. However, the greatest amenity that the penthouse suites had to offer was the breath taking views. The wedding photographer was thrilled at many incredible sites to capture the happy couple. The two suites were beautiful dressing areas for the bridal party and a quiet, comfortable haven for the families to rest during the busy week-end.
One of the suites was the venue for the Sunday Brunch, the kitchen and living space provided a perfect place to serve a beautiful breakfast and for the families to enjoy the final gathering of the celebration.
I can't imagine a more beautiful place with the expansive views of the Columbia Gorge, the lovely decor and luxurious comfort of the suites to celebrate such a special event.
Thank you Steve and Tracy for your hospitality! Columbia Cliff Villas will always have a special place in our hearts and we plan to return frequently. In fact, I would love to just move in.

My husband and I got married on August 11th, 2012 at the Columbia Gorge Hotel and chose to stay at Columbia Cliff Villas for the duration of our wedding weekend and a couple of days after. Tracy and her staff could not have been more kind, attentive and helpful through what can be a very stressful time. They helped us get in a little early, found places for us to store all the wedding decor that we brought and made sure that everything was where it needed to be. Not only did they make the bride and groom's stay wonderful, but they also took care of about 20 different families that came out for our wedding too. Everyone's rooms were spectacular, and it really helped make the weekend perfect for them as well.

Tracy was exceptional, and such a wonderful help when I called every other day to confirm guests and shuffle people around. She was patient and definitely knew what she was doing.

I would recomend Columbia Cliff Villas to anyone and everyone, and my husband and I will be choosing to stay there for as long as we visit Hood River, Oregon.

Thank you!!!

We were honored to have played a role in a memorable destination wedding for such a fun couple and family, and we look forward to being a part of many happy anniversaries. Tip for the newlyweds: You don't need a special occasion for a romantic getaway. Hope to see you again soon.

We stayed for two nights in a Euro King (I think we were upgraded to a Courtyard) room, which was quite large (website says it's small; prehaps they vary). The room was new and mostly clean, although there was quite a bit of dust on the numerous mini-blinds and the shelf above the fireplace. The bed was quite new and we slept fine on it. We appreciated the coffee maker and free internet. There was a partial view of the river, but mostly we overlooked the well-landscaped parking lot and the other buildings. You may need to park in the gravel overflow area a short distance from your room. I think management could clean up this area to make it a little easier for people to figure out how to park, (remove old pallets, etc.). The property is situated along I-84, so there was some traffic noise (drowned out by the small refrigerator). Like another reviewer, I did get the sense the condos were serving as (temporary hotel), but that didn't bother me. There is no elevator; be prepared to carry bags up to the third floor. The real gem for us was next door at the Columbia Gorge Hotel--we enjoyed breakfast there and walking around their elegant grounds. There is a waterfall between this property and the hotel that spills into the Columbia. I think the management could have perhaps given a little more info about the surrounding property which was historic and stunning. Maybe give a coupon for X% off breakfast at the restaurant. The main purpose of our stay here was to hike on Mt. Hood in the daytime and tour breweries in the evening; we found this to be a good base for those activities. I would come to Hood River again and I may stay here again.

Thanks so much for staying with us and for taking the time post your many positive comments. However, a 3 out of 5 rating is a big hit to our average of 4.5. As we continue to strive for excellence and top of the list, as the General Manager, it’s my responsibility to make sure our guests are fully satisfied, answer for any shortcomings and clarify any statements that are not factually correct. As TA readers will see on our website, Columbia Cliff Villas was designed to serve as a luxury condominium-hotel from its inception. We offer a wide variety of rooms and suites with many different features and amenities – several that are served by an elevator to meet access requirements. We pride ourselves on cleanliness, as many other TA travelers have posted. However, the winds that draw the sailboarders and kiters from all over the world also carry a bit of pollen from the forest that surrounds us. If the room you rented had not been occupied for a few days, I have no doubt that you found some dust on the hardwood blinds and fireplace mantle. Due to your comment, our housekeeping crew will now re-inspect all rooms that have been unoccupied more than two days - on the date of arrival. While we are sometimes challenged to provide our free parking at everyone’s doorstep during peak periods, there is always plenty of space in one of the adjacent overflow parking lots, both situated closer than most hotel parking. The remaining construction pallets and debris you spotted have already been removed from the lower lot. If you check our website, you will find several references to the adjacent historic hotel, restaurant and the beautiful gardens, stream, waterfall and bridges that separate us. Our concierge staff regularly recommends their fine and casual (indoor and outdoor) restaurant for breakfast, lunch, happy hour and dinner. We have explored the possibility of offering a breakfast coupon but have found that most of our guests seem to prefer to exploring and selecting one of the many interesting restaurants in the area. We hope you will join the many TA travelers that return to stay with us (frequently) and discover your favorites.
Happy travels,
Steve Tessmer

We enjoyed the location and setting of this place. We stayed in a Euro Queen. It wasn't huge but it was roomy enough for the two of us for a two night stay. The property is absolutely beautiful and so was the room! We enjoyed walking the grounds and enjoyed the river. It is very close to the center of Hood River. The drive would only take a minute or so.

We had direct access to comfy chairs on the veranda. The view was of the parking lot and a tiny piece of the river. I expected this when booking so we were not disappointed. They have other chairs on the property near the river so we were able to enjoy the view from there. A mini-fridge would be a nice addition to this room. But they did provide an ice bucket for our beer.

If we ever visit the area, we would not hesitate to stay here again!!

Dear Traveler_at_heart,
Thank you for visiting Columbia Cliff Villas and especially for taking the time to share your memorable experience with other TA travelers. I’m delighted to hear that you found an excellent value, even in our smallest Euro Queen room, which just does not have a good space for a refrigerator. As you can see from our website, we have either full-sized or mini refrigerators in every other room and suite type other than the Euro Queen - but our friendly staff is happy to deliver a bucket of ice anytime. We look forward to your return. If you’re like most of our guests, your next trip might be a bit longer than your last. If so, I’d suggest a Euro King Suite, which features a river view, fireplace and kitchenette. The single-night rate is just a little higher than the Euro Queen but we offer extended-stay mid-week specials that make them very comparable.
Happy travels!

We would highly recommend the Villas for anyone looking for a romantic mini vacation in the heart of the Columbia Gorge. These well appointed units have everything, view, amenities, location and privacy.

We planned to stay and head into Hood River for music and dinner, and ended up never leaving the Villa because of the view and the weather.

This is the premier property in the Hood River area, or the entire Gorge for that matter.
