Tokyo Japanese used to be our go-to Sushi place when we first moved to the area, I remember in 2005 an older couple preparing the food and waiting the tables. Different people have been running the restaurant since and the quality of the food has become rather inconsistent and we stopped visiting a few years ago.
A few weeks ago I wanted to give the place another try and ordered take out and found out that things have not changed much. We had chicken teriyaki which we have always liked, it comes on a bed of cabbage which is partially caramelized and very tasty. The actual sushi rolls we ordered were where things were less enjoyable. The spicy tuna rolls did have a good amount of solid (not squashed bits as we have had elsewhere) tuna but did not have any spice to them. Dragon rolls seemed to have a lot of mayonnaise in them. They were dressed in plenty of fish on the outside though. The eel rolls had way too much avocado in them. We also had shrimp tempura rolls and spider rolls we thought tasted "off." The presentation was ok given it was take out. Portion sizes were quite small.
Considering things tend to be on the pricey side even as sushi is considered I need them to do much better for me to come back.
