“Gourmet dining, small town pricing”
Reviewed August 11, 2012

This place is pretty unusual. From the outsice it looks like an ordinary small town resturant that tries to capture a share of the traffic going up & down Interstate 5 between Portland and San Francisco. There is nothing wrong with the interior (airline theme decor), but it doesn't have the atmosphere that you might find in an upscale resturant in a large metropolitan area.
The food is outstanding; my best description would be asian fusion; high quality ingredients and creative use of ginger and other asian flavors.
Nice wine and beer selection; not extensive, but it contains a selection of good local offerings.
Appears to be a husband & wife operation.

“Very good food, quirky decor”
Reviewed August 3, 2012

Very difficult to describe this place. The menu has both Asian and American dishes, I had a chicken curry- very fresh vegetables, nicely cut pieces of chicken breast, delicious tasty sauce, not drowning in sauce like most curries for $13. My husband had potstickers and salad, Both good. We finished with a fresh blueberry pie- also good- stuffed with fresh berries.
The building is away from the main part of town but is worth a detour. It used to be the gas station for the old airport and has lots of old style airline posters around. But the fixtures are very much an old bar and grill. And then there is a prominent picture of the owners and chef, Sandy and Tim, with Julia Child in Santa Barbara. I believe they former had a restaurant there.
I definitely recommend dining here.

“We were so lucky to choose this place on our way through Grant's Pass...best ever clam chowder.”
Reviewed July 6, 2012

We chose this place off of Trip Advisor, and so glad we did! Awesome service - the waitress let us try each of the soups of the day before we had to choose. We loved both the chili and the clam chowder, but ended up choosing the clam chowder. My husband, who is from NY, thought it might be the best clam chowder he's ever had! I had a Cobb salad (awesome) and he then had the fish tacos (also wonderful). The decor is a little older, but the food and service make up for it. Definitely recommend it!

“Food would be competive with any major market upscale dining”
Reviewed July 3, 2012

Succesor to Aja's (pronounced 'Asia'), with the same eclectic pan-Asian and American food. While Aja's was more fine dining in decor, tables and place settings, The Beacon remains what it always was inside and out and that is a bar and grill. Aja overall was five star, but there is an incongruity between the food, and the seating and minimal decor at the Beacon. It is also very noisy with no sound-deadening. However, excepting these minor complaints, the food is imaginative in flavors, from fresh, and local seasonal ingredients, and joy of joys, the food is served hot direct from the kitchen. We ate the last day of the Winter menu, but we have eaten at Aja's with their Summer menu, and all the food was always excellent. The chef is not classically trained, but her cooking methods are classical with pairings and ingredients that compliment or counter-point each other. While not a Michelin 1 Star, it is a restaurant worth going out of your way for.

One of the better eateries in Grants Pass. If you like great food with an Asian twist, you will love this restaurant!
