“Great huckleberry pancakes and lots of food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2012

We stayed several days in Welches, and twice we drove to Government Camp to eat at the Huckleberry Inn. The first time it was snowing like crazy, which made being there even more fun. My husband and I decided to share our food the first visit. We ordered an omelet with hashbrowns, and my husband wanted to try the huckleberry pancakes.

The omelet was very good and perfectly cooked. However, the hashbrowns seemed to have been of the frozen variety and didn't have the crispy finish of freshly grated potatoes. I thought they were a bit soft and lacked flavor. But, the portion was huge! Hashbrowns took up half the large plate; the omelet the other half. Toast came with a very tiny (miniscule?) portion of huckleberry jam. We asked for more, and were brought another tiny paper container of the apparently very precious spread. We had so much left over, we took home a container of omelet and hashbrowns. Huge portions!

My husband really really liked the huckleberry pancakes. I'm a buttermilk pancake person so I wasn't as enthused as he was, but if he had had his way, we would have eaten there every morning just to get those pancakes--with huckleberry syrup as well.

The second time we ate there, I had a french dip sandwich with onion rings. (Ok...so we don't always eat as healthfully as we should on vacation!). The portions were plentiful and yummy!

There is also a Huckleberry Inn above the ski shop where you can spend the night. We spoke to someone staying there, and they were very enthusiastic about the hotel.

We will go back.

“Good pizza in the Goverment camp - Mt. Hood”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2012

It's not so easy to find a decent place to eat in this area but this is actually a good choice... don't expect a fancy place but it is cozy and you will not return hungry.
The pizza is recommended and also the draft beers.
